It's shared blame. Assessing a game is not for simpletons. A guy who hasn't started in 3 years torched this defense in the last two and a half quarters. They allowed almost 40 minutes of possession. It was their fault after we tied it at 17-17 with all the momentum and 8 minuets left that we ended up on our own 5 with less than 2 minutes left. In OT if they force a punt instead of getting pushed 60 yards downfield for a deciding FG maybe we win.

The tackling was horrid. The pass rush weak.

Those are facts it doesn't exonerate all the offense mistakes

Very good analysis. We were very poor in tackling, and seemed to be going for the " hit tackle" instead of the wrap up version. McClain had several of those. Not giving up on him, as he brings his motor every down, just caught up with him in this game.

He is still #8 in punt returns and contributes to the team in many more way than just that.

to many fumbles....to many bone head moves....we are not seeing the same Harris as last year.....I think they give Randle or Street a chance....

A couple of weeks ago, I made a thread that was all for drafting another blue chipper on the OL. I was loving the run game at the time, and still am up to a point.

But, it is obvious to me that this defense can not hold up 16 games with the current make-up. We need a dominant DE, ML, CB and a safety.

We do have three good linebackers but I don't think we will ever see them all play in the same game. Moore and Mo need to battle it out for a back-up and we need a ball-hawking FS. A huge NT would not hurt either but we need to get some sacks and consistent pressure on all three downs.

This defense is held together with duct-tape and WD-40 and that won't last much longer. Never thought I would be pinning for Brent to come back(if ready) and Lawrence needs to be ready.

D. Harris needs to find a new home next season, we need someone more explosive back there.

If Dallas wants to sign AP and let Murray go, I won't argue that either. Sick and tired of his fumbles and carrying the ball like a loaf of bread just to get that extra yard after a 1st down.

I know, I know...it is one game but it was not pretty.

We play half-arsed next week and we will be ran out of the building....get it together now!

Hey, a lot of Cowboys didn't play well. Even coaches have a bad game now and then, and this looked like a game when we were all on the same page -- the obituaries. You see these games almost every week, and much more often in college.

So, what's the reason for it? Usually it's failure to execute the game plan. Romo didn't read well, the WR's didn't get separation, and the coaches failed to adjust properly to the blitz; still don't see why we didn't run 12 or 22 sets and get quick releases, delayed draws, screen, etc.

You know we don't have a pass rush, so that's no surprise; but we usually contain and pressure -- the Tampa II bent far enough to allow Wash to double our TOP, and that's on the coaches, too. Poor tackling is another mystic phenomenon: why does that change from week to week?

If we knew all the answers, we'd probably be coaching -- all still getting beaten occasionally in games that we should easily win.

Not saying they played terrible but being on the field 21 of the 30 minutes in the 2nd half was terrible. That gives your offense no time to get into any rhythm. They were poor at tackling tonight and let Washington pick up 3rd down after 3rd down.

The OP is not over reacting. This defense is no that good. Better than last year? Sure. But that was the worst in Dallas history and one of the worst in NFL history. So that's not saying much. Teams have WRs running free every single game. We got lucky that some of those QBs missed on them i.e. Locker and Fitzpatrick.

We desperately need a good DB. Carr is terrible. Mo is a lost cause. Scandrick is ok but if he's your #1, you are in trouble. Our safety play is very meh, too.

Need LBs too. Lee is obviously never going to be healthy to give you anything. Carter is so up and down. Who knows what McClain ends up as.

I still think you gran another OL in round 2. Another pass rusher is key, too. Not having any pass rush just kills us at times.

we're going to get em

I agree that we need defensive players and lots of them but we allowed 20 or 23 points last night...?

Dallas offense cost us the game. The defense couldn't get key stops but the offense should've scored more points.

I'm just glad Romo was able to come back. If it had been more serious, I would probably be writing off the rest of the season. And maybe we need a new RB coach. It was on the offense tonight. The defense such as it is kept us in it while the offense couldn't get out of their own way most of the game. Murray, even with his fumble, tried to carry the offense but it wasn't enough.

the defense needs help.... i remember someone made a thread about how we were 1 or 2 pieces away on defense... i just laughed... they got mad, it made me laugh more... we need impact players on defense....guys that other teams have to scheme for ... we don't have that. But they've been playing hard, and at least they keep everything in front of them.....

Yes he does but not in his returns....he does not look the same. I am all for him playing ST's, just want a new return guy.
he is in the top 10 in returns and has had a couple of very nice returns brought back by penalty. harris is the least of this teams problems.
the defense did not tackle well but they did play better than average and stopped them in some difficult situations.
the skins killed us with the blitz and we did'nt find the answer to stop it. as we see film we will see where those breakdowns came from.
but the one thing that did the most damage last night was the turnovers and cutting harris, replacing ours safeties is not going to change that
