When an offense takes 60-70 snaps in a game, there are always 4-5 calls that people won't like. When Dallas loses, Garretts haters hang onto those 4-5 plays for dear life to make their case. When Dallas wins, not so much. Like yesterday when Romo fumbled. Less than 7 minutes left, up by 4 TD's inside your 20 yard line. Why pass the ball in that sutuation?

Doomsday is right, execution by the players make coaches really good or really bad.

Win or lose, no coordinator calls 70 perfect plays every game. There will always be call that make fans scratch theirs heads. So focus on the bottom line: this offense is averaging almost 30 points a game and second only to NO.

Except for a playcall here and there, Garrett is doing a very good job. And the points the team is scoring speaks for itself.

Good post. I'd add that Garrett may well be holding back some of the playbook. I'd bet there are a few "plays" ready for Philly. It wasn't just the players hurt by 44-6.

this is a passing league now. this is not 1994. you pass to win now. the patriots changed that back in 2002.

Even the Pats were the 6th rated rushing team in 2005 and 7th ranked rushing team in 2004 both year winning SB. I agree the pass is important but the ability to mix things up to be good and running and passing is what makes defense have difficulty stopping you.

I have no issue with the Cowboys mixture of run and pass we are moving the ball and we are putting up points just as many points as the might colts have. We have talent both at WR and RB and a quality QB and I think we are using all of them.

only a "moron" would expect to effectively pass the ball 40 times a game in Philly in mid-November, Wash in late Dec, NJ in Dec, nevermind @ GB in mid-nov.

yup, abandoning the run, eliminating ball control & winning the TOP is a sure-fire "moron recipe for failure, especially with a mistake-prone team!

When players execute as they have been we will win games. Garrett has not been costing us, our own mistakes and poor execution has.

Haters are going to hate. If you already have a dislike for Garrett it is easy as someone already alluded, to hang your hat on the few plays you dislike.

I wonder what would have been said by the anti Garrett crowd if Garrett goes conservative and the next sequence of events is:

1. Blocked Punt TD 38-17

2. Another set of runs that go 3 and out. Punt return for TD. 38-24

3. Onside kick then quick TD. 38-31.

4. Couples minutes remaining and its anyone's ballgame.

Granted that is unlikely, but I am sure crazier things have happened. Then I wonder if the argument isn't "Garrett let off the gas pedal and it got us beat or nearly beat", "The running game had not been as effective as the passing game, why did he go away from what had been working".

I am not even debating if it was the right thing to do (pass vs. run). Just an illustration how I believe that the anti-Garrett crowd would have found a reason to illustrate his incompetence one way or the other.

Flip Flop much?

That's not flip flopping. That's called changing your mind. I like what Garrett is doing here. I really like the results he is yielding. I only hold the Giants game against him. But even then, I never said I didn't like him. I know the guy is bright and knows his Xs and Ox. I give credit to Jerry as a GM for assembling what I think is a great coaching staff. I even like Wade Phillips. The players like him and they seem to be responding to him lately. Meaning: they can save his job if he wins a SB.

Having said all of that, 'flip flop' is a derogatory term that suggests one shouldn't be able to change his/her mind. Which is simply one of the stupidest things I can think of.

The Garrett haters will be back in droves next week if the Cowboys lose and score less than 21 points. They will find their 5-6 plays they don't like and use them as proof Garrett is incompetant and should be dismembered on the star at Cowboys stadium.

And if not this game, it will happen at a future game. That is simply the way it is. Garrett really seems to bring out the extremes in people, for whatever reason.

Changing your mind is one thing going from extreme to extreme is different.

Doomsday, I've known you for over a decade and you and I both know the term 'flip flop' is inflammatory. If someone goes from one extreme to another it's called a 'realization' and it takes more nads to admit you were wrong than to stick by your guns when you know you're wrong.

Do you disagree with that?

When you go from Garrett is an idiot and needs to be fire to he is doing a good job I think that is more than a flip flop. He and this team should be judged on the season not game by game or play by play. It leads to a lot of stupid comments. It is hard to talk serious to those who fly off the handle so quick. Nothing wrong with pointing out what you think was wrong in a game but jumping up hollering he needs to be fired leaves no wiggle room what so ever.

I agree with you. But I think this poster, as opposed to most of the knee-jerkers, is making the assertion he was wrong. Therefore, also hopefully a declaration that he won't knee-jerk if he has a bad game or what not. I applaud him for that. Now there is one less jerker we have to deal with. I enjoy it because I like to read this board and what you're saying is true, and it disappoints me as much as you, I think.

It would be easier to buy if it were not for the fact next week he may be singing a different tune once again. If I did not know better I would think some posters are webbels who wobble but they don't fall down. :laugh2:

Yeah, I see your point. There sure are a lot of posters not only with their foot in their mouth, but that we haven't heard from in a while. ;)

I guess they only come out when it suits them. LOL
