I wish I could believe otherwise - but no great HC is headed here

Part of the problem with letting McCarthy walk is that Jerry won’t fire him now and start a search right away. He will drag his feet until after the season. The top assistants and even Vrabel are likely to be low balled by Jerry, and likely to want some assurances that Jerry won’t support. Be careful what we wish for. It can be a whole lot worse than Mike McCarthy.

A great HC would come here but I’m skeptical Jerry and co. are savvy enough to find one. Johnson isn’t coming here but not because of Jerry. He’s going to go to Chicago where he can coach a young stud QB.

Many Cowboys fans are discussing some big names who could be our next head coach. I’ve done some of that dreaming too. But at this point unless the man in charge makes MAJOR changes in how he operates, there will be no new coach that can rescue this mess. Because the owner won’t allow it.

I wish I could believe there is a new and better head coach headed to Dallas for 2025. But I just can’t. As long as Jerry Jones is breathing he will never hire a head coach that would or could upstage him.

To support this belief, here are some key points that have seemed obvious to me for years:
  • Jerry Jones does not think like a normal owner or GM who wants to win a championship so badly he’s willing to hire a great HC, pay him handsomely, and support that HC by backing off. He does not want to win bad enough to change. Period.
  • Jerry hires HCs not based on who gives us the best chance to win a championship but who makes him feel comfortable. (Your honor I submit these names into evidence: Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, and Jason Garrett)
  • The job of being HC of the Dallas Cowboys is not attractive to a HC who wants to do what normal HCs do in the NFL; like have control of the locker room, select his assistants, decide who starts, control the message to the press, etc.
I do not believe this job is attractive to any self respecting up and coming HC who is young and rising star (like Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn) because (a) Jerry doesn’t want to be upstaged ever again by a young star coach like Jimmy Johnson. (b)He will not change.

Our only hope rests in any of these things happening:
  1. The Jones kids are tired of this 3 decade treadmill and want real changes. They pressure the old man to hire someone who can and will change this culture and force the old man to back off after the hire.
  2. Jerry himself is tired of this cycle and decides to go after a coach that he will pay well, gives him freedom to run the team like a normal HC, and allows him to transform his culture.
  3. Things stay exactly the same and we somehow just flat get lucky with whoever is hired.
Of these scenarios (all of which are unlikely) I hope scenario 1 could somehow, some way happen. Maybe Stephen, Charlotte and Jerry Jr have had enough of this wash, rinse repeat cycle of playoff irrelevance and put some pressure on Daddy to change.

My friends, without major change at the top, we cannot expect different results.
There are no great coaches any way

Something tells me Jerry is gonna swing for the fences...

I'm thinking Lincoln Riley could be the next man up..

He’ll take the largest monetary offer. Jerry can get any candidate he wants if he’s willing to pay enough.

That is a good point that ship has sailed and jerry cant see or accept that.
Just this year he stated that he is by far the best possible GM for the cowboys lol.
He lives in his own fantasy world.
Did he say that.. what a complete knob.

Lets hope the next knob doesn't think he would be.

This brain dead front office, the front office of the MOST VALUABLE FRANCHISE IN THE WORLD is too cheap to open up the checkbook and hire a legitimate HC. Dan Lanning has a $20m buyout and would probably play ball at $15m/year. That's peanuts for this organization, an organization valued at TEN BILLION DOLLARS, but these clowns are going to cut corners and resign Mike at $5-10m, or give Zimmer a lesser deal.....despite the fact that those funds don't count towards the salary cap.

Look, no offense to Mike. I like the guy, and I do think he's maximized production for what he's been given. A coach with some stones would've demanded a running back and some trench players, knowing this teams obvious deficiencies, going into a contract year, but we didn't see that, and here we are. It's crazy how effective ownership has been at constantly and consistently selling this fanbase on "this is our year", and letting us down over and over again without being held accountable for their failures. I'm kinda over it. We have a big offseason coming up, and I have no confidence that these clowns will get it right. Hope they prove me wrong, but I really doubt that happens.

The writing is already on the wall. This week alone we've had Jerry, Dak, Stephen, and even Aikman endorse McCarthy coming back. There will also be no significant free agent moves as Stephen has already said 2025 will be much like 2024 which is probably due to them adding a huge contract for Parsons. All they are concerned about, as many here have said is Jersey sales and making money. I hate what these clowns have turned this team into.

Any good coach wants to be able to do their job assembling a staff and having say on FAs and drafted players. But most importantly they want to be able to choose their QB. None of that is in Dallas. I'm so glad I don't care about this team because I know it's never going to get fixed because they will never invest in a first round premier talent and pedigree at the QB position. It's been trash since Aikman and it's going to remain trash.
