As I've said before in other threads, I don't hate Big Mac, but I do think it's time for a change-up.
Yeah if it’s 4-5 years of Moore or two more of McCarthy, give me the latter. He may not have a choice, and will probably be surprised that the up and comers aren’t lining up for this situation.
People think Jerry is going to hire someone to come in here and fix this right away. That’s not going to happen. It’ll be another puppet. The guy is still fully convinced his way is the right way, he is the best man for the job…and doesn’t appear ready to step out of the spotlight at all.
Kept in contention ... vs Whom ? NY Giants ?I know some of you will ridicule this OP, and I don't care. I wouldn't be opposed to Mike McCarthy returning. There's something to be said for a coach who, despite all the adversity he's faced, has kept this team in contention to where the playoffs are not out of the realm of possibility.
I remember in 2015 when we lost Romo, and the team fell apart under Garrett for a 4-12 record. This is now twice where Mike has kept this team fighting despite significant injuries to the team.
I think, unless the replacement in mind is someone like Vrabel, I'd rather Jerry give Mike a 3-4 year extension (especially since there's no cap on a coach). If Jerry and Mike are okay with this, I'd like a coaching staff of Mike at HC, Daboll at OC (he did well with Josh Allen in Buffalo, and he can call good plays), and Saleh at DC. That'd actually be a good coaching staff.
I know it's easy to look at a coach like Bill B and point to the championships. However, 1. What's his record without Brady and 2. How does he coach through adversity?
To me, when I see Mike McCarthy coach, I see someone who has, despite Jerry, kept a culture of keeping a struggling and less talented team fighting. It seemed he'd lost the locker room. Yet, especially the last 3 weeks, he's got the team fighting. Sure, he's got his flaws, and every coach does. That said, I love the culture he's instilled of fighting through adversity. He's got a winning record with us.
So yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to a 3-4 year deal for Mike *shrugs*, especially since Jerry can sack him without salary cap consequences.
Gailey, Campo, Parcels, Phillips, Garrett, Big Mike, none of it has mattered because they all had the same GM.Exactly, and people here that think the grass is greener with a different coach need to understand there's a very good chance that it'll be Kellen Moore.
Below average without Brady.Bill belichick is the greatest football coach to ever live. Why would anyone want him?
There is some merit at this point.
Changing HC's means changing assistant coaches, changing the offensive and defensive philosophies, changing the players to fit a new system, and learning the system.
Consistency and familiarity are important aspects to building a competitive team. Three different DC's in the past five seasons is challenging enough.
I would be greatly influenced by the team's performance through the remainder of the season.
Yup.As I've said before in other threads, I don't hate Big Mac, but I do think it's time for a change-up.
Everyone knows KMoore was the coach behind that #1 offense we had.Same here, to me, McCarthy has at least earned a second look for the rest of the season.
Good argument for bringing back KMoore. There is some merit at this point.

Because he’s crusty.Bill belichick is the greatest football coach to ever live. Why would anyone want him?
Me either. But he reminds me a lot of coach Marty Schottenheimer. A really good regular season coach, then craps the bed in the playoffs. But you have to start somewhere. Regular season gets you to the playoffs. I have to believe they learn from mistakes. Remember, McCarthy's 15-1 Packers lost at home in the DIV round to the 9-7 Giants. But again. considering what is available, he's not a bad choice.I know some of you will ridicule this OP, and I don't care. I wouldn't be opposed to Mike McCarthy returning.
