I'd rather a smart player like Coale start over an athletic guy like Ogletree

I would be willing to bet Coale will know the playbook just as good if not better than Otree by the time the season starts. He has better hands, will run better routes, and is just a guy I think Tony would be able to trust. Sure Otree has been in the system and is our fastest offensive player but I don't think that matters as much because Tony won't trust him. Heres to hoping Coale wins the job (Holmes I see as the #4)

Think of it this way too who has helped us move the chains more a smart guy like Witten or an athletic guy like Martellus

I absolutely agree, I've been reading about people and coaches saying "oh Ogletree has really stepped it up this off-season" but its taken him three years! I see him as a stop gap at this point because he himself isn't worth that roster spot. I'm hoping Coale can come back strong from his injury, I do like Holmes though. If I were Tony looking at an open Ogletree, I would second guess myself and that would get me laid out.

What made Robinson and Romo click was that when the play broke down, Robinson had the sense to break off his route and work his back to the QB while finding an open area. That is what the third WR has to do above all else. Do this and have reliable hands, and it will be all good.

Beat me to it Otree could be the fastest guy on the roster, but also the slowest. If you catch my drift

Not calling anyone racist but how does Coale get the reputation of being "Smart" and Ogletree gets the reputation of just being "athletic"? I've seen nothing to suggest Ogletree is dumb. Not knowing the playbook doesn't equate to someone being stupid.

I wasnt aware of his combine results. I'm just going off what I see on Sundays, he never struck me as some overly athletic guy.

in before OP gets called racist

White Player = smart, Black player = athletic. I wasn't the only one that took note of the title but Im suure thats not what the OP meant. Perhaps more "fundamentally sound" would've been the better option.

And to this point it's not about smart vs. athletic. Witten is just flat out more talented than Bennett.

That's a silly way to think of it. Witten is one of the best tight ends in the league and has been for years. Martellus was his backup. He was never going to get the chance to "move the chains".

And I find it funny that Witten has this perception of being "smart". He sure made some boneheaded penalties last season. And that's not a slight to Witten. His a top 5 player on this team. But its just interesting seeing these perceptions fans have of certain players for whatever reason.

If you tell me how to post a picture on here I can show you I'm not racist because my best friend is african. Ogletree has proven time and time again he isn't too bright because if he was I don't believe there would even be a competition based off his speed and experience. He has had so many opportunities to grab the spot and no one on the DC website ever says its because he doesn't have talent, they say they see a lazy guy. Given the opportunity he's had (has) to me lazy = dumb. How can you be lazy when you've been given an opportunity to see major field time with the Dallas Cowboys? I'm rooting for Danny Coale

:laugh2: I dont mean to laugh but it's a running joke among Black folks that when one is accused of being racist their go to line is "No, I have a friend that is..." It's not that serious tho broham you dont need to post a picture in your defense, we're here to talk football

haha I really do though add me of facebook to see if anyone cares that much about my WR comparison I made.

Oh boy the classic "smart player" vs the "athletic player" debate... I'll take Andre Holmes over both.

At least according to combine numbers, Coale isn't that much worse an athlete than Ogletree. Really, straight line speed is the only thing Ogletree has that Coale doesn't, and that's not to say that Coale is slow.

Kevin Ogletree (Danny Coale)
Combine
Height: 6004 (6000)
Weight: 196 (201)
40 Yrd Dash: 4.36 (4.50)
20 Yrd Dash: 2.51
10 Yrd Dash: 1.50
225 Lb. Bench Reps: (12)
Vertical Jump: 36 (35)
Broad Jump: 10'02" (9'07")
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.08 (4.15)
3-Cone Drill: 6.67 (6.69)

I think Ogletree's reputation as stupid has less to do with his skin color and more to do with his performance in last year's Commanders@Cowboys game, the one in which he claimed Romo called him "stupid."

Coale has a reputation as a gym rat. His dad is a trainer at VPI. Ogletree said after his brother's death that he has never taken football as his first priority.

I don't think anything that anyone's said in this thread is untrue, except maybe for the part that implies Coale is much less athletic than Ogletree.

:lmao2:

That type of comment annoys me the most. "Oh i'm not racist I have one black friend..." lol. No one is accusing the OP of being racist. I certainly am not.

Personally I feel laziness is something you've inherited throughout your life. You lack work ethic. I don't equate that to intellect.

And more importantly sometimes you simply aren't good enough. Ogletree wasn't a 1st round pick. He was undrafted and undrafted for a reason. He hasn't snagged that 3rd receiver IMOb because he's not good enough. Just because you can run fast and jump high doesn't mean you can play in the NFL. There have been plenty of people before him and there will be plenty of people after him who will never get the chance to step on the field on Sunday's simply because they weren't good enough.
