Ideal offseason Players in Dal/Capspace

OL I can see us considering (Bold = who I see us signing based on our cap)

OC Cory Withrow - SD
OC Kendyl Jacox - Miami
OG Cory Procter - Dallas
OG Eric Steinbach - Cincinnati
OG Kris Dielman - SD
OG Derrick Dockery - Washington
OG Mike Gandy - Buffalo
OG Leander Jordan - SD
OG Montrae Holland - NO
OG Toniu Fonoti - Miami
OT Marc Colombo - Dallas
OT Leonard Davis - Arizona
OT Jordan Black - KC
OT Tony Pashos - Baltimore
OT Damion McIntosh - Miami
OT Scott Kooistra - KC

I put the SD and Miami players on there cause of Phillips and Garrett....

thats the point dallas doesnt need him to be very good. they just need him to be serviceable. he's a good backup to have. and cheap.

Tyson Walter has the ability to stink at all 5 positions across the offensive line... the guy is freakin' AWFUL... even the Skins didn't keep him around after they signed him, and they didn't have jack for depth on their OL... the year before, he couldn't even get on the field for the TEXANS, for God's sake, and they might have the worst offensive line in the league...

The Boys didn't need the cap room the last time they cut him, they sent him packing because he was so bad... so why would they now want to bring him back??

if ur atleast going to try and denounce my opinion try to atleast back it up with something. instead of just i dont knows, and saying somebody is older then dust when they're really not. ur probably older then gandy. maybe not but u know

I see that a post or two later, you figured out that you'd said we should go after WAYNE Gandy (who's a tackle), and he turned 36 about 2 weeks ago...

But now you say you meant MIKE Gandy... OK, fine, but I still have to ask WHY??

The Buffalo offense has been quite lousy for at least the last 4 years... over that time, their average offensive ranking has been 28th in the league, and they've averaged 272.4 yards per game over those 4 years...

This suggests that nobody's done much blocking for the Bills... now, maybe Gandy is the only lineman on that OL who's worth a hammered crap, but the numbers suggest that nobody on that OL is worth a hammered crap...

He's also started 62 of the 64 games he played, I rather doubt that he'd be happy to sign on anywhere to be a backup...

since i based the first post on realistic caproom guys ill do what most people on this bord do and just think dallas will go after the top guys

FA pick ups
Adalius thomas
Deilman
Steinbach
edwards because he played for phillips hes here

Hey, there's nothing wrong with your attempt to identify players who the Boys could fit under their cap... the problem is, you singled out a number of mediocre at best to bad at worst prospects...

I could suggest a Kendyl Jacox, a Damion McIntosh, a Floyd Womack or a Zach Piller as decent offensive line prospects who might come fairly cheap...

At WR, Kelley Washington from the Bengals might be a steal for somebody... Antwan Peek from the Texans might be worth a look at OLB/DE... Rod Hill from the Iggles and Lenny Walls from the Chiefs would be much cheaper CB alternatives than Nate Clements...

These players are all likely to be relatively inexpensive, and IMO their collective talent is considerably greater than the players you recommended (for the most part, I liked one or two of your suggestions)...

again, i never said walter should start, actually i think i even mentioned this later in this thread that he would be a very good and inexpensive utility guy that can step in, incase of an injury.

Except he's not "very good", or anywhere CLOSE to it...

you cant have steak at every position. this isnt 1992

if we had a steak wouldn't it be easy for the other team to step over the steak? Unless we are talking like a HUGE steak

Womack or Pillar, I agree.

Jacox and McIntosh have been awful and aren't worth the internet space wasted talking about them.

Rod Hill?

Having bad flashbacks to the early 1980s? I know you meant Hood, but I am a fan of Freudian slips.

Given your endorsement of Walls, I can take it you endorse going on the cheap and hoping for luck. The way free agency is now, just playing will cost you.

The "cheap" free agent is gone. It is a seller's market now, more than ever before. I don't want to spend dollars on people like Walls.

I would as soon just roll the dice on a big payoff than bother wasting time with pittance side bets that have little payoff. Save the money for the season when you might really need it.

Sorry beat ya too it Yogi.........btw, Latin has said he wants that Gay fella from the Pats at CB.....

IMO that one fella from the Bengals would make a nice S pickup.....I cant spell his last name, but it starts with a K

who is Zach Piller?

Offensive lineman for the Titans.

He actually is a free agent right now as he was released the other day.

Well, we disagree on that one... I think Jacox would be a great fit at backup center and guard, and I think McIntosh would provide quality depth at tackle as well... wouldn't want either of them as our starter for 16 games, but you could do worse as injury insurance...

Rod Hill?

Chuckle... I caught myself typing that about a half dozen times in other threads, in time enough to correct it... did some sloppy proofreading this time, didn't I??

You're right, my memories of Hill are NOT fond ones...

Given your endorsement of Walls, I can take it you endorse going on the cheap and hoping for luck.

Well yeah, that was the theme of my response-- looking for players who might be able to help "on the cheap"... I figure the Boys will be good for one, maybe two quality signings, any other free agents brought in will be marginal types...

If Latin wants a Gay fella, I figure it's don't ask, don't tell time...

Kevin Kaesviharn... I rate him the 3rd best free safety on the open market, so I don't know how cheap he'll be...

What the heck kind of name is Kaesviharn, anyway??

He's a guard for the Titans... he's been a little injury prone in his career (he's only played in 20 games the last 3 years, and that includes all 16 in 2005), but he has size, and some game...

Don't know if he'd want to sign anywhere that he wouldn't likely be a starter, though...

No way in hades I cut Flo.

You wanna think back to when he was hurt as a reference for what happens when you don't have a solid starting LT???

Seriously, I find that almost as off-base as cutting Romo.

We need depth behind Flo first, then perhaps to phase him out, but you definitely do not cut him until you know darn well someone else can play LT.

---------

Patrick Crayton is a solid 3rd Wr, possession type but any team giving up a 2nd round pick to sign him is certifiably insane. They'd have to offer him a contract big enough that we don't match plus cough up a (likely tho not yet confirmed) 2nd for a guy who has not been a full time starter yet. His 36 receptions were not even close to getting him into the top 30 in the NFC alone. I like Crayton a lot as a local kid but he is what he is and that is not an NFL starter, much less star.

I will agree with Latin about Gay who shouldn't be terribly expensive.

He isn't a full-time starter type but could fill the Aaron Glenn role quite well(speed type who matches up outside and not with slot guys in the nickel defense).
What he has over Nate Jones and Jacques Reeves is game experience. Jones/Reeves have actually played in more games but not as a DB. They are ironically all from the same draft class unless I am mistaken.

Hey, I think they must've opened up a website together. I saw it advertised the other day... Gay Latin sumthin' or another dot com.

Yep... it's so far off base that I have to think to suggest it, one would be merely trying to get a rise out of Cowboy fans.

His whole post seems almost like an attempt to splash cold water on all us Cowboy fans free agency and draft speculation. Like he's trying to bring us down to Earth, so to speak.

Pretty much what Flo is anymore. Average. Maybe he will recover some more but who knows. He needs to restructure.

I don't think it is a matter of recovering . Flo is lazy and rarely plays anywhere close to his ability....send him down the road

our offseason depends whether or not we come to terms with columbo...i think it's a given we'll sign or tender crayton and mcbriar, while re-signing kenyon coleman to a multi-year deal..assuming we don't sign columbo, i'de like to see these free agents signed...

1. leonard davis (can play RT or move inside to play RG, then draft an OT day one to replace columbo)
2. tim rattay/damon huard
3. Deon Grant (good experience in the secondary, can help groom Watkins)
4. Donnie Edwards (led chargers in tackling the past couple seasons i believe?)
