If a SB win, would this be the best Cowboys team all time?

I've seen that superbowl several times; have it on DVD. How exactly should they have lost that superbowl?
Perhaps because they were outplayed by the Steelers the entire game except for the 1st quarter. If it wasn't for O'Donnell we would have lost. I never enjoyed that game. Just was waiting for it to get over. If I knew that was going to be the last SB we ever won maybe I would have enjoyed it more. Even on all the post game shows I listened to it felt like we just survived. Maybe it plays differently when you already know the result.

Dunno I saw the game back in the 90's too. Perhaps, I was used to the 90's Cowboys getting a huge lead and then letting teams come back to make it closer. In the early 90's it was more like the team got bored after dominating and let people come back to make it closer than it was.

Also, Lawrence is certainly better than Tony Tolbert.
Hmmmnnn......I'm willing to call it a draw.

D-Law 58.9 sacks
Tony Tolbert 59 sacks

D-Law 433 tackles
Tony Tolbert 580 tackles

D-Law 20 fumbles forced, 8 recovered
Tony Tolbert 7 forced fumbles, 4 recovered (stat not recorded until 1993, Tony's fifth season)

D-Law 8 playoff games, 3 sacks
Tony Tolbert 15 playoff games, 10 sacks.

D-Law 0 time starter in a Super Bowl
Tony Tolbert 3 time starter in a Super Bowl.

Tony Tolbert started ahead of Jim Jeffcoat, Leon Lett, Chad Hennings, and Danny Stubbs. That was no small accomplishment.

I believe that Lawrence is just as good as Tolbert, but better?

........For me, that's a tuffie.

Hmm not so sure. I think Lawrence is probably better vs the run. Tolbert was a better pass rusher. The thing about that Cowboy team is they were literally 8-9 deep on the DL.

Runners were better back then, but the passing game of today is FAR more sophisticated, and the defensive calls are far more sophisticated than back then. Today's teams would destroy teams from back then, and that's just my opinion. I'm 53 and lived through the 70s, played football, and today's teams are just down right sophisticated. Players are bigger, stronger, faster. They never moved Irvin around like they move CeeDee around on offense.

Some of these blitzes, especially these overload blitzes are sophisticated. These stunts and twists, and DBs bailing from press coverage. Zones turned man before snaps, RB chipping pass rushers. Offenses going into mostly shotgun to prevent an ambush pass rusher. Kickers kicking 60 yard field goals regularly. They never had to worry about the threat of a QB just running on you. The offenses of today would break records against the defenses of yesteryear.

It wasn't sophistication that created the NFL offense of today. It was rule changes specifically designed to open up the passing game and increase the rate of scoring.

Roger Staubach never played in a season where a play was over once he was in the grasp of a D-lineman. The play wasn't over until the QB was on the ground. Helmet to helmet tackling was standard procedure.

Roughing the passer was called if the QB was tackled after the whistle blew.

There was no five yard rule for DB's covering WR''s. Unprotected receivers were human trophies to safeties like Jack Tatum, Ronnie Lott and Cliff Harris.

And yet, there are far more injuries being reported today. Notice I said being reported. Quarterbacks played with knee braces, protective vests and even casts on their non-throwing arm.

There are QB's in the 2000's that wouldn't last two weeks in the 70's.

Not in a million years was Tolbert a better pass rusher than Lawrence.

Tolbert was an slightly above average player on a great team.

For those of you who think the 1977 Dallas Cowboys would instantly dominate over today's Cowboys...are you serious? Are you really that stupid? Today's NFL teams are far superior athletically and the offensive/defensive schemes are way more sophisticated. Now don't argue with me, just go fetch me a beer.
As for a comparison with the 1992 Cowboys, I do think the 1992 OL along with Emmitt Smith would run over and wear out a DQ defense. Irvin would eat up anyone in our secondary. But the 90s Cowboys offense didn't run up points. And I don't see our offense today handling Charles Haley. But if they could, Dak and CeeDee would roast Larry Brown and Kevin Smith. Even today I would take Haley over Parsons, easy! Parsons is a vastly superior athlete but Haley was a total head case that just knew how to mess up offensive lineman and make QBs suffer. Haley was sadistic!
It has to be in comparison to the other era teams, so is this team constructed better in 2023/24 than the 70' team was contructed in the 70's or 90's in 90's...and the answer is no because there is a cap now back then we had starters as backups... yes todays athletes are better but compared to other athletes the same era do you feel like our current team is as strong vs the other s as those teams?

This is just a joke thread
You cannot compare teams forty or fifty years ago. The game has changed too much. But clearly looking at Pro Bowls and All Pro and All Decade Teams this one is nowhere near the best which I think were 71, 77, 93

Lets be blunt: how many players from this roster does anyone see in the HOF outside of Martin and Tyron and maybe Micah?
