I wouldn't go as far as to say you are crazy or that you are not entitled to your opinion... but from everything I have seen Loadholt doesn't have the build (his butt is up by his shoulders) or the feet to play either tackle position in the NFL

That's not accurate. Loadholt is not quick enough to play LT, but he should become a heck of a RT in the league. It wouldn't surprise me if he becomes a Pro Bowl regular at RT after he becomes a starter.

As a LT he's like a fish out of water.

I will if I was GM. I don't care what people are saying about his body appearance, the kid has a top 10 skill set. Grooming him for a year in our program should be more than enough for him to start producing as one of the better LTs in the league in a year.

Flo affords us the crucial opportunity to be able to do this. If our team finishes where we expect them to for the next 3 to 4 years, then we will never be in a position to draft a LT with Smith's status. We likely will have to get Flo's replacement through free agency and pay major money for it.

You could also argue that there might not be a position on this team where we absolutely need to take a player in the 1st round. Especially if our young WRs pan out along with our policy on WRs.

Andre Smith has the feet of a 6'4 tackle but the arm lenghth (which is really all that matters for the height dimension) of a 6'8 tackle. He's gonna be a solid pro for years to come. He comes in with a remarkable colllege pedigree and will be dominanat in the pros.

I'm not an Alabama fan or anything of that sorts. And people saying this kid will fall out of the first round or being down on him based on his workout numbers, gimme a break! Because he did 2 fewer reps than guys like Oher means he won't make it in the NFL? Plus, there's no way he drops out of the 1st round; the league is too smart for that. Even dropping to 25 is a stretch from where I see it.

Now, if the team feels Free will be a solid pro some day (and I also believe this), then the move won't make sense. But if they don't then I see this as a beautiful opportunity to solidify the left side for the next 10 years

How else are you gonna get a LT with a top 5 skill set? I don't know what you think but I believe we'll be picking in the low 20s next year. Do you see us getting an elite prospect at that position with that pick? With one year of grooming in the league already?

Keeping that first gives us much greater versatility, than just giving it away for a lazy, overhyped prospect. Because of language parameters, I cannot fully express my true feeling on Smith as a prospect. Let's just say I hold him in a very negative light. I'd rather have that waste of space Phil Loadholt over Smith.

Well, maybe you don't hold Romo in as high regard as I do. I believe he's gonna give us some top level performance for next 8 years. Taking Mccoy-if he's available at that pick-will be the dumbest move this franchise has made. You don't take a developmental player/backup with that high of a pick.

I believe Loadholt can play, but what's the point in taking him if you believe he's a wast of space. We'll just have another Rogers/Marten/Mcquistan on our roster who will be cut in a year or two. I don't know if that makes much sense.

If Smith is availabe at 25 then I don't know how overhyped you can truly call him. This whole thread is a pipe dream anyways because most reports and know-whats in the business still have him going in the top 15. Regardless of workout numbers, he showed scouts what they expected in the workout drills. And that was elite quckness, footwork, burst etc. So I don't know where you got the athletic ability questions from, excpet bench pressing with bad form (the bar even popping out of his hands like he was doing plyometric bench presses) is a measure of that. His forty was actually on par with what you should expect for his size and position.

If anything, the kid is being overanalyzed because of previous concerns. You prolly have your personal prejudices against him but I don't see how anyone could deny he's an elite prospect at that crucial position.

you mean the way GB did with Rodgers or Philly did with Kolb (early 2nd)?

Romo sat for 3-4 years. He has started almost 3 years now. I say he has a good 5 years in him before he starts to seriously decline, based on his style of play. That means Colt sits for 4 years. By then, he knows the system inside and out and is ready to step right in and take over.

So taking Colt with our first rounder would be dumber than trading 2 firsts for Galloway? Allowing Emmitt to walk so Hambrick could flame out as our starter? Drafting Ellis instead of Moss? Drafting all those jokers in the late 90s....Carver, Ekuban, Zellner, LaFleur, etc. Or maybe it was getting PacMan Jones. Maybe it was letting Jimmy Johnson walk away after winning back to back SBs......There are so many things this franchise has done that can be considered far worse than drafting Colt McCoy in the first next season.

as far as personal prejudices go? after the Longhorns.......Bama and Georgia are my favorite college football teams. Smith had a good season last year, but he is still overhyped. He was able to dominate cause of his physical stature. He just doesn't act professional. He doesnt seem to take the whole process seriously.

This is the take I have on him too. He's a natural talent that just doesn't seem to want to put in the work to make himself a star for years to come. Left Tackles in the NFL can't be lazy and keep their QBs healthy on a consistent basis.
