The kid wearing #12 for the Cowboys isn't half bad. :)

As his book aptly said, "Time Enough to Win."

Yep.

This was the first year they used the shotgun and Fitzgerald was hit or miss on his snaps.

In fact, he was yanked from the game during the Hail Mary drive because his snaps were so horrid.

What are everyone's thoughts on how different the NFL was then as compared to now?

The snaps on the previous drive were unbelievable.

Fitzgerald was a pretty good player ... it took a lot of guts to pull a veteran on the final drive of a playoff game and insert a rookie. That helped them win the game.

I like the stats at the bottom of the screen now compared to then.

Re-watching that game after all these years, the thing that struck me was the weight of the players. Dallas was a tall team, but they (and most other teams) were lean.

During the telecast this morning, they said Lee Roy Jordan weighed between 205 and 210 during that season. He was about 6-1. That amazes me. The linemen were all around 250, 260.

Also, I enjoyed re-watching all of Landry's shifts before the ball was snapped. Dallas wasn't a necessarily, big, fast or strong team in the 1970s. But they were smart and polished.

I have it DVR'd to watch tonite, at least I'll enjoy this one, I watched the replay of the "Catch" game a few weeks back and was still mad we lost, I found myself rooting on every play, even though I knew the outcome.

Hence, they were labeled a finesse team.

I liked that back then the offensive linemen could not grab the defensive lineman's jerseys.

Wow, where to start?

For one thing, I think teams were more defense-driven in the 1970s. But offense is what keeps people tuned in to the tube, so now high-scoring games are the key.

I miss the OL getting set... straightening up... then resetting... it was really cool to watch...

It was actually a really good strategy... the purpose was so the defense couldn't immediately see any motion in the backfield when the OL reset and maybe be a step or to behind before the snap...

Didn't Fitzgerald have a shoulder injury that year that kept him from snapping correctly? Kyle Davis, who replaced him, was one of the unheralded members of the Dirty Dozen.

Of all the great football moments in my life, the hail mary ranks as high as any, if not the highest. I was 11, I'll never forget it, the sheer jubilation that went through me, jumping up and down in my Grandmother's living room by myself, screaming like a maniac, nobody else was there. Staubach, Pearson and the rest were my childhood heroes, especially Roger. We were never out of the game with Roger Staubach, the REAL comeback king.
Now I'm really amped to smash the Vikings Sunday. I wish Roger could/would address the team before Sunday, give them a sense of history and what it means to the fans. GO COWBOYS!!!
