Man, this game is a trip to watch.

No onscreen info that shows the score, down and distance and time remaining

The announcers are awful compared to todays (imo)

The QB's looks so small, Tarkenton in particular looks smaller than QB's I've seen in high school.

I think these teams would get slaughtered by current NFL teams.

Madden should have a "classic" mode where current teams can play teams of the past, but the rules that have to be followed are the ones each team had to adhers to in their era. If the rules allowed cornerbacks in the 70's to be more physical, then the team from that era could getting away with whatever was allowed when they played but the team from the 2000's would be restricted by whatever their current rules were. In other words, each team would have to play by the rules in effect while they were a team. Even with that, I don't think that would offset the size advantage or offensive/defensive complexities current teams employ

Seriously! We are so spoiled now. Not being able to see the downs, the score, time left, quarter at a glance was driving me mad! And no fancy graphically enhanced introductions to the players, just big, ugly orange letters. :laugh2:

And the announcing reminded me of radio announcing. The whole atmosphere felt completely different. More like a highschool game.

Very cool to revisit classic Cowboys games, though, particularly this one.

How about Randy White on the return teams, Cliff Harris returning punts and Talk about rule changes, Man, some of the DB's were mugging the WR's. I forgot just how good Lee Roy Jorden and Mel Renfro were.

Surprised no one's mentioned both teams being on the same sideline.

I actually prefer to listen to the game and the bands and the like compared to the BSPN/MTV/whatever crap they have today. The announcers told you how much time was left and the like- you really did not need it cluttering up the screen. The more clutter the less game you see.

This was before roids really started to hit like with the Steelers soon. And all the body building type of strength programs started. There was actually very little weight training back then.

It was a primarily Defense driven NFL and I liked it more then the NBA crap we have today. Its gotten so ridiculous with protecting the QB and crap. Lambert just a little while ago actually appologized to the QBs of his time for saying they should wear skirts- he said compared to today they were real men.

The thing is, back in the day I don't recall ever wondering what the down was or the time, score, etc. I think not having the info shown all the time forced the viewer to pay closer attention. Today, you can tell everything with a glance.

Good point. I don't recall having an issue with it when watching the NFL back then.

I agree. In fact, I had a hard time adjusting when they started keeping the score, down and distance and all of the other things on the screen during the games.

Eventually I got used to it and now it was tough to do without having that information at a glance.

Exactly. They made a point to tell you that stuff back then, as opposed to now when we get Joe Buck making some kind of cute would-be funny between plays.

Thanks for the word about this. I was able to go online and set my Direct TV dvr to record about the last hour of the game. I got to see all the scoring except for the first Minnesota TD.

Can someone tell me about Doug Dennison? He appears to be the main back for Dallas in this game. I recognize the name but don't recall anything about him. I was 5 years old when this game was played.

With Dallas leading 10-7 in the fourth. Golden Richards drops a 3rd down pass that may have gone for a touchdown. He was racing down the sideline and was past the defensive back. He had to slow down a bit for the ball so the defense may have been able to catch him but it was a horrible drop. Then Dallas punts and on their first play Minnesota goes deep and Mark Washington (?) drops a sure interception.

Two huge drops with one play in between. If Dallas catches either one the Cowboys win in a less memorable fashion.

Anyway ... it appeared to be two very good team pounding away on each other for 60 minutes. Not the best played game but very hard fought. Hopefully the game this week will be as fun.

Decent back nothing real special. We had Newhouse and Preston Pearson as well. Pearson play the following week was big vs the LA Rames and helped get Dallas to the SB that year
