What would people here be willing to give up to have a running game like we had with 22 back in the day? I know its only hypothetical. But i saw a thing on tv today saying should AP leave the vikings. I also know the vikings will not give us anything easy after the Walker trade. But in theory what would you be willing to let go of for AP?

The running game we had with Emmitt back in the day was when he was in his early to mid 20's not when he was pushing 30. Plus Emmitt was running behind one of the greatest OL's ever. AP's best years are behind him it would be foolish giving up a premium draft pick and then some for a back who'll be 29 by the start of next season.

AP can cost 814k this season? How?

I will say this. AP is reaching the magic number (30), but he's a special breed of athlete. In the scenario that was posted earlier. IF AP's numbers that were projected are to be true I wouldn't mind having him here. He would be a great addition and it would give opposing teams more to think about. Do they stack the box and leave our receivers on an island alone? Do they go dime and leave AP with only 6 in the box? He would take this offense to another level. ......but, realistically I don't see any of this happening.

If we were to get a Viking, I think the player that could address an area of need and have a huge impact would be Jared Allen.

Gailian Beast, in your scenario for AP, could we make cap room for JA??

All of this is hypothetical and I have a lot of fun with these type of threads.

You make room by restructuring their base salary for 2013 into signing bonus. It would still be more than 800k when you include the signing bonus for this year.

You couldn't do the exact same strategy with Jared Allen though, as this is his final year (i.e. no years to spread the money into). You could however trade for him, and in that trade sign him to an extension in which you put his current base salary into signing bonus.

Man I would love to see this happen but I don't want to kill the cap or lose a bunch of picks.

Thx! If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose Allen. He wouldn't cost as much as far as what we would have to give up and he'd also fill a need.

We will be $31mm over the cap next year. And will have to do a lot of juggling to get under that. No way in the world we can afford him. Nor would I really want to take on his contract even if we could. RBs just aren't the same anymore. Look at all the best backs over the years. Peterson, Johnson, Jones Drew and others. How much success have their teams had? Not much. You can easily get by with a serviceable back that does not cost an arm and a leg. What Peterson did last year was great and fun to watch. How many more seasons does he have left with high production outputs?

No way in the world I take on his contract along with a 1st round pick. That would even put us more in the hole. And those deals to RBs got us in trouble in the first place. Barber and Felix to be exact. And also, paying big money to guys on the wrong side of 30 has hindered this team as well. If they do this, nothing is changing and we continue down the same dead end cycle.

See how Randle develops and then if we need a RB, there will be plenty in the draft and they will be in their young 20s. Not almost 30. RBs 30 and older are useless in the NFL now.

#22 didn't usually start fast in games....got better as the game wore on.....difference is that coaches back in the day stayed committed to the run.

The Vikes would most likely ask us to trade a 1st, 3rd, Murray and Austin....or 3rd and Dez...if not, they would tell us to kick hot rocks

I would give Miles, Demarco, and a number 1

Thats it.

That may just be a conversation starter. Too bad no one thought of this when both Spencer and Rat were viable trade pieces. It could have been 4 starters (3 of which were pro bowlers) and first in 2015 and a 2nd in 2014 and 2016.

After Herschel trade they are going to want everything. Love AD but price will be too steep. Too bad, he was born to be a Cowboys great.

If possible I'd rather have Allen. Could you imagine the instant upgrade to our pass rush??!

First of all, we cant afford him. We are currently $31 million over next years cap according to Broaddus. AP is scheduled to make around $14 million next year on his current contract, do the math and you see very quickly that this is not going to work.

Secondly, even if he took a huge pay cut (which he wont), no way do I give up a 1st rounder for a RB. If I am giving up a 1st, it is going to be for some stud DT or DE to help out this decimated defensive line we got.

Finally, AP is almost 30 years old and historically that is when RBs start to slow down and show wear and tear. If you are going to trade for a back, get one in their mid 20s at the latest. Better yet, draft one.

I'd trade DeMarco Murray and Miles Austin for AP right this moment.

Like I said, you would still have to extend his contract. So he would still be rather expensive. I see your point, but I would suggest it would come down with their willingness to trade him and how much he would want in compensation.

I'd much rather have AP who I feel would have an immediate impact regardless of what else happened.

I hear ya. If we somehow landed AP, my first reaction would be back flips all across my house. Lol.
