If Armstrong and Fowler are having problems stopping the run play Williams and 99

Im not saying it was right

Haha I hear ya. Well hey, I’m certainly pulling for the kid and hope he turns into a do it all DE just think the OP was miles off thinking he’s the answer to set a stronger edge and play the run right now.

That we can agree on!

He was literally untouched on his TFL on the RB…no one put a finger on him. I’d disagree that he “beat his man before the OT was set” but even if that’s right it’s like saying a WR burned a CB on a miscommunication in the secondary and he’s uncovered. Kind of irrelevant.

Yes, the sacks were great but have nothing to do with run defense.

I somewhat I agree with you. But I feel that he is much stronger in the point of attack than what we believe. I haven't seen enough of him to make a determination about his run defense. His assignment is to keep containment to the inside. So quite possibly he is doing his assignments correctly.

Run D just isn’t about strength though…it’s the ability to get off blocks and having the instincts to sniff out where the play is going and finish.

More snaps and opportunities will give us more of a chance to evaluate him but as of now I haven’t really seen anything against the run. And again, he isn’t the starter for a reason so IMO the strong possibility of why is bc of run defense.

I think the fretting about the run defense is a little overblown. Team is 12th by rush DVOA. So just a bit better than middle of the pack. I'll take that weakness

I agree to an extent. I guess the concern is the teams we might see in the playoffs have challenging run games.

Phi, SF and MN could all be tough matchups and since the NFC and our schedule is so weak we might not know until it’s too late.

OK coach, didnt know we had genius NFL coaches in here :muttley:..lmao.. how about allow quin to evaluate and play who he feels is best..you putting player on notice is priceless.
Everybody is a genius coach in here, you know that bb.
Opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one.
Here is my opinion, Armstrong and Fowler are excellent contributors to this defense, and without them this defense would be lacking talent and peeps would be complaining that we have no depth.
Good thing we have Bland and Joseph on call with the Lewis injury.

I could show you his preseason highlights where Sam Williams was a total beast stopping the run and containing the edge, but you might complain that it was preseason and against 2nd stringers for the most part. During the few times he has played during the regular season, Sam Williams has continued to show his run stopping dominance he displayed during the preseason.

It's up to you if you want me to show you his preseason run stoppage performance.

Do you honestly think we should be evaluating players on preseason performance when he was likely going up against up against other rookies?

You just quoted regular season run stopping dominance…would love to see it. We know he has 4 TFLs…2 of which show nothing of him disengaging from an OT, reading the play, and getting to the all carrier. Can’t find vids on other 2.

If you have all 22 of additional plays would love to see it.

I do pay to have All 22, but I don't have the software to create your own videos. That's the only problem I have. For $9.00/month, anyone can go to NFL.com and pay to have access to every team's All 22 tapes. I highly recommend you subscribe so you can see what I see. It would answer your questions on Sam Williams.

Ahhh I see. Well I follow a ton of dudes on Cowboys Twitter that do post GIFs and advanced stats that capture run defense data and I’ve seen zero about Sam Williams…

Until then, I’ll watch the games and keep an eye out for any kind of data / stat that helps his cause in run support.

I believe in the next couple weeks, we will see Hankins and Hill starting with Odiggy and Gallimore in pass rush rotations.

Gallimore was cleared to play. Played Hill instead. Wonder why. Now Hankins added.

Yea, I mean you could say that for just about every position. The hit rate drops the further you outside round 1 but there are still guys to be had.

DLaw
Judson
Zdarius Smith
Hendrickson
Crosby

All some of the top DEs in football that aren’t just pass rush specialist. I hope Sam continues to develop, but man if our FO took him thinking he’d only be a situational guy over other potential full starters that’s awful drafting.
Sam Wiliams is only situational because he is so green.
He is just getting his feet wet and getting comfortable.
Anyone throwing up his stats in 14 snaps is going to gain snaps.

Are also having problems stopping the run play Williams and 99 over there on first and second down!! Bohanna Hankins in the middle!! If These guys cant stop the run sit on the bench! Bye bye Gallimore soon!! Better wake up or you are gone soon. They may even trade him soon!
But Armstrong is a better run defender than Williams, so how would this help?
