If Dak dominates like he did in 2019 does Dallas trade Dalton?

30TDs to only 11ints and almost 5000 yards. Carrying a team with no defense and a head coach that should be a grade school gym teacher to an 8-8 record! Maybe a desperate team will send us a 3 for Andy.

Dalton can’t be traded after this season because he is only on a one year contract, and even if he was on a 2 year contract, Dak playing well wouldnt somehow mean the Cowboys don’t need a quality backup.

if you are talking about trading Dalton during the season then the question is how can you determine Dak has had as good a 2020 as 2019 until he has played out 2020?

Ultimately, your premise is off base anyway because it suggests the only reason to keep Dalton is as protection in case Dak doesn’t play well, and that’s not accurate, The team is already convinced Dak will play well, which is why they are talking to him about a huge contract. Dalton was signed to be a valuable backup - protection if Dak gets hurt - and Dak playing well doesn’t change that.

Nice. It's nice to have a quality backup, but Dak is extremely durable and the fact that Andy is only on a 1 year deal, might make him easier to trade. Less commitment.
Teams don’t like to trade value to get players that have “less commitment”. With Dak being a free agent after 2020 teams would offer much.

You would have to have a team that loses there QB early in the season. A team that thinks they have a shot with a average QB. Most have young green QB they are grooming and will use it as time to groom. We have Dalton for 1 year.

so? If a team needs a QB during the season, they need a qb..
Possibly, but unlikely. And if they do it will likely be a day 3 pick similar to our trade for Cassell in 2015

Id be happy to do it, just because its a pick for basically nothing. But I dont see the FO doing that.

I didnt realize we could trade players that were not on our team. That changes the game completely! Let's trade Mahomes for a couple of 1st round picks!!!!

You don’t think he is a strong backup QB for the team to have?
Ill say this, if they come out of preseason feeling good about Thorson or even DiNucci to keep them on the roster, Id be open to moving Dalton if the opportunity arose.

You definitely arent getting a 3rd like OP suggests, but I'd be happy adding another 5th. All of this unlikely. The stars really have to align. You need a another QB to emerge as someone you feel comfortable with, and you need a team that comes into a sudden need for a QB starting experience. What makes it less likely is that Dalton would have to learn a new system in season. Remember when we had to start Weeden because Cassel wasnt ready

Unless Dalton pulls an Orton, I can't see them moving him for any realistic trade offer. Hey, if a team goes all Viking and offers us a first(Bradford) ship him out, but that isn't happening.
