Teams do spend a lot for QBs at the top of the draft, that's true. But, I think a lot of that is also because there is tangible value in a Rookie deal that you can have in place for 5 years. 5 years is a long time to have to build the rest of your team and lets face it, most teams who are picking high are bad so there are typically a lot of areas you can look to to try and improve on. It takes time to develop a QB so you almost never ever know what you have in a QB until you have him for a couple of seasons. If you miss with a Rookie QB, chances are that you are going to be in a position to pick at the top of the draft again in the near future. Another chance to get your QB if you miss the first time but more importantly, if you do it right and you build the rest of your team, then you can trade that pick and acquire another QB down the road or you can sign a QB who might not be the top 5 guy in the draft but might be good enough to win with once you've built your roster out. There are a lot of ways you can win. Hell, Tannihill is playing for a shot at the Super Bowl this weekend. Really, Tannihill?
