If Dak leaves

Our ownership should have drafted and developed a heir apparent to make this transition much easier .
I don't disagree with this statement, in fact I echo it. Look at what GB did with Favre/Rodgers, or what KC did with Smith/Mahomes.
that's the blueprint. Admittedly, easier said than done.

But, they didn't have a plan, we are where we are, and so "it is what it is" as they say.

Is letting him walk and starting over a gamble? Sure. No guarantees that they'll find the right guy, right away.
But I would submit that it's a bigger risk making Dak the highest paid guy ever with a bunch of guaranteed $$ and bloated dead money down the road, when you know who he is at this point.

In reality, there are no guarantees, but I like our odds of drafting the next franchise QB in 2025 more than I like the odds of Dak finally figuring it out after almost a decade.
Had they made a deep run this past year and gotten somewhat close, then maybe it's a different discussion.
But <90 yards and 2 picks (should have been a 3rd pick at the goal line just before we finally scored, but their defender dropped a giftwrapped INT) in the first half vs GB closed the book for me and a lot of other people. I don't need, or want, to see anymore at this point. I understand some see it differently.

Let me rephrase it then, his cost against the cap will be the same regardless.
So the Cowboys eat the cap hit either way. What is the value of postponing moving on from Dak. The Cowboys have limited cap space right now, but they’re not trying to sign expensive free agents for this season. So it doesn’t matter. Staying with Dak means exactly that. Staying with Dak. Beyond this season Dak is only with the Cowboys if they give him a contract he wants.

Somehow miraculously the Cowboys managed to go five and one without Dak with a backup scrub quarterback but the stans want to convince everyone Dallas will be in the wilderness for 10 years lol
I agree. Not seeing Dak as all that. just SAYING, we will see a downturn for s awhile.

Like we did when Romo was no longer the QB? Wait, that didn't happen.
and Romo never did win us much. Same likely thing with Dak. The 1 constant is the folks running the team that never want to go all in to get us back into the SB. That has never changed.

The larger dead money hit would be accelerated to this season. The optics would not look good considering he just finished 2nd place in MVP votes. The team would not get the compensatory pick if he was straight released. If the team moves on, then it just means they do not see a bright enough future with him to justify the contract he wants.

Yes, because not having a plan is dumb.

"You might find the next Mahomes" -This is why the Just Move On people are ridiculous. You have a top-10 QB entering his prime and you want to find a one in a million prospect. It's just such stupid logic.
No more stupid than sticking with someone when you have 8 years of proof this person can't get the job done, and you only keep him out of fear his replacement might be a bit worse. They're not winning anything with Dak, so why keep up with what you know isn't going to work?

So, the team just plods along, Dak is QB1 all season. And then the Cowboys are searching for a quarterback to replace him. The dead money hit comes over a couple seasons. Jerry is spared the optics of releasing Dak after a good year. And then either pays him more than he would sign for now or endure the optics of the team’s starting quarterback leaving for another team. They’d be better off releasing him now and get started on life “post-Dak”.

Talk to Jerry about it. I’m not defending the position. Just giving the rationale that they may be using. And if the Cowboys move on from Dak, and within the next 3 seasons are making the playoffs with a new QB it will be entertaining to hear how much better off the team would have been by just giving Dak the contract he wants.

It is going to be entertaining if Dak leaves, because every week there will be a thread on the front page with "Dak's stats week 1 with his new team" vs "New Cowboy's starter week 1 stats".

Then week 2 comparisons, then week 3 comparison, then week 4 comparison, and on and on and on.

And when Dak has better stats, you will see the pro-Dak crowd say "told you so, we should have kept Dak"........vice versa, if Cowboy's new QB has better stats, the anti-Dak crowd will post "told you Dak was a loser and this new guy was better".

Going to be like that every single week of every season going forward, the new Cowboy's QB will constantly be compared to Dak and both sides will use whatever stats are available to bolster their side.

Should be entertaining if nothing else.

Yes, it sure is.

You do not have proof they can't get the job done. By that logic, neither could Peyton, Stafford, Elway...
