I said the same thing earlierI think the job is Lance's to lose.
Not that he has it, but the Cowboys want to see if he could earn it, and if he does show something Dak is gone.

if they want to move on from dak, i highly doubt all hopes are on lance or they fork over near or record breaking money.First few weeks, first few games of the pre season, few games into the season and we see Dak signs, does that have to do with Lance not being capable of being a good NFL QB? Is there any possible chance that they're seeing if he's good enough to possibly hold up contract talks even longer?
(Breaking News, another Dak thread, please stay on topic, the mods are extremely busy these days!)
I believe this was primarily Jerry Jones' personal strategy when he acquired Trey Lance last August. Lance is either: a) his fall back option if he cannot get Dak Prescott to agree to favorable terms; or b) he can schmooze another general manager (or managers) and craft a trade up for an optimal candidate in the draft.I think the Cowboys are either hoping Lance can be a possible replacement for Dak in 2025 or they are hoping to showcase his improvements in training camp to get a quarterback-desperate team to trade a higher round 2025 draft pick for him so they can look at finding Dak's eventual replacement in the draft next season.
How desperate for a quarterback would a team have to be to be prompted not to wait for the 2025 draft and select one themselves?I think the Cowboys are either hoping Lance can be a possible replacement for Dak in 2025 or they are hoping to showcase his improvements in training camp to get a quarterback-desperate team to trade a higher round 2025 draft pick for him so they can look at finding Dak's eventual replacement in the draft next season.
Trance is an indictment on Trance.First few weeks, first few games of the pre season, few games into the season and we see Dak signs, does that have to do with Lance not being capable of being a good NFL QB? Trance has zero trade value as an inexperienced QB on a 1 year $5.3M. Why can't people understand that?I think the Cowboys are either hoping Lance can be a possible replacement for Dak in 2025 or they are hoping to showcase his improvements in training camp to get a quarterback-desperate team to trade a higher round 2025 draft pick for him so they can look at finding Dak's eventual replacement in the draft next season.
I've said before I'm not sold on Lance being anything at this point because he has yet to prove anything other than he was a top draft pick that a team got rid of after 2 seasons.Trance has zero trade value as an inexperienced QB on a 1 year $5.3M. Why can't people understand that?
If he plays phenomenal in preaseason, he would have zero time to learn a new offense if he was traded. Does anyone recall what happened last year???
So it would be another wasted year and then he would be a free agent. The only way someone would considering trading for him, would be if it included an extension.
Every QB that came out in this years draft has more experience than Trance. All the failed QB's that that got drafted over the last 3 years that actually have more experience.I've said before I'm not sold on Lance being anything at this point because he has yet to prove anything other than he was a top draft pick that a team got rid of after 2 seasons.
That said, many teams are looking for their next quarterback so any young quarterback showing improvement or great potential will pique the interest of those teams.
As for learning a new offense, quarterbacks do that every year as teams sign replacements due to injuries, so it would not be a wasted year if a team traded for him.
In any case, Lance has trade value right now even without playing in the preseason. It would probably be a 5th to 7th round pick, but he has value.
If he has a solid preseason though that could bump him up to a 3rd or 4th, though I suspect the Cowboys will keep him unless they get a high enough offer for him during training camp.
You may be right, but there are always teams looking for a quarterback and one who was a top pick just a few years ago will likely appeal to a lot of teams.Every QB that came out in this years draft has more experience than Trance. All the failed QB's that that got drafted over the last 3 years that actually have more experience.
Trance would be the last one on my priority list and I definitely would not trade for him when he can be had for nothing next year.
When Dak moves on at the end of the season the team most desperate for a quarterback will be the Dallas Cowboys. If Lance doesn’t play well this season no one will want to trade anything for him. If he does play even a little well Dallas will be the team most anxious to sign him. Trey Lance has Winnipeg Blue Bombers written all over him.You may be right, but there are always teams looking for a quarterback and one who was a top pick just a few years ago will likely appeal to a lot of teams.
Personally I don't care as I'm not sold on him at this point unless he made a lot of improvement with a full season of coaching, but I do think he will generate some interest from teams if he has a solid preseason this year.
I won't be surprised either wayWhen Dak moves on at the end of the season the team most desperate for a quarterback will be the Dallas Cowboys. I think any good will they had with Dak was erased when they traded for Trance. Intentionally or otherwise, Dak received the message loud and clear. When Dak moves on at the end of the season the team most desperate for a quarterback will be the Dallas Cowboys. It should though. If they believed in him enough to trade a fourth they should have been aiming for more than a backup.I don’t think it has anything to do with it.
Well, the write up in the other thread about the first day of camp said "Lance was struggling to throw the ball more than 5 yards down field and while Rush did have some errant throws, he looked better on day 1"I think the job is Lance's to lose.

He has zero experience.Well, the write up in the other thread about the first day of camp said "Lance was struggling to throw the ball more than 5 yards down field and while Rush did have some errant throws, he looked better on day 1"
So, let me get this straight, our so-called future replacement for Dak cant throw the dam ball more than 5 yards down the field and got outplayed by a career backup the first day of camp...........WOW

They probably are. That is why some Dak fans do not like him or the trade. When they should be just glad they are trying to improve the TEAM.It should though. If they believed in him enough to trade a fourth they should have been aiming for more than a backup.
