Does anyone know what happens to his or any other player's contract if they retire? I had asked this in the PC thread but hadn't received a response.

I think the cap hit is within that next years figure.
I would think we can keep an eye on FA vets & rookies for additional LBers...I don't have a good feeling about K. Thorton's knees...I wonder if Barrow is active this week? He is stop gap for this year but might have something left?

Dat's been thinking of retiring for a long time...
I wish him well. He won't ever play again IMHO.

Anyone think Burnett will start this year?

Any feelings on Fowler? I think this is his game to show something.
I think James needs to be blitzed much more vs Eli for big hits & forced fumbles!

Our LBers & team as a whole are going to really rough up Tiki to win this game & control the flow!

a.j. hawk will be longgone by the time we pick. we will have a chance at his teammate Carpenter though, that may happen. Dat will probably retire now, plus his cap figure and stuff makes it more likely imo.

Wonder how long Dat has been having trouble with his knees/neck. Stinger to his neck might be something occurred as result of playing in 3-4 but knees might be a longer term problem. If Dat consider retirement you better believe he isn't feeling physical well at all. If he does retire, he will do so in way to help the Cowboys. In other words we would wait til after 1 Jun 2006 to turn in his retirement papers to league office cause then we can lessen cap hit unless doing so sooner is better. BTW: Couple years ago when Moose Johnston still playing, he had problem with his neck which he called a zinger. It was diagnosed as problem with disc in his neck and it was operated on; Moose tried to come back but was only able to do so for short while before trouble again with his neck. I think doctors told him another neck operation would severely limit his neck movement, etc. I think that is why he retired. Sounds like maybe Dat's neck injury may well be problem with disc but this just my opinion.

I do like the idea of getting a young LB like that to grow into a franchise type LB. Someone to build a defense around, but I also wouldnt be opposed to going to FA to find a vet. That way, we could have someone to help mold that young guy into a great LB.

I agree, Hawk will go top 10, maybe top 5. I would gladly take Carpenter.

I'd kill some of you to have Hawk on our team, but that ain't gonna happen-he's gone REAL early.

There are a bevy of other LBers that fit Parcells mold in this draft....

We are all set if thats what we chose to do.

I think Brooks has a chance to fall out of the first round.

That's a real shame about Dat Nguyen. I hope he can come back. He's been a very solid player. Get well Dat!

Move Burnett to ILB.

Makes sense to me. I think he's most likely better suited there anyway, and they need to see what they have got in him.

If they draft a LB, I think I'd like to see a LOLB maybe like Bobby Carpenter.
This is supposed to be a LB heavy draft, but I don't know if there's a lot of 3-4 OLB types other than Carpenter that could go high.

I do think Dat is is done in the NFL..I appreciate his fine contributions and wish him the best..we need a young stud like Carpenter or the like and I hope we also add a solid veteran to help along the transition.
