If Ireland leaves before the Draft, what compensation

do you think we receive from Miami?

It has been suggested that if Ireland were to leave immediately as the Dolphins GM, that JJ would push for some type of compensation (as per DMN Blog).

I do think we would receive some sort of compensation if Ireland were to leave before the Draft. (JJ appears to have drawn the line in the sand there.)

And it appears reasonable that BP would want Ireland well before the Draft as well.

I'm thinking maybe one of Miami's 2nd or 3rd round picks? That seems reasonable, no?

I certainly think if he left before the draft compensation would be in order...but anybody thinking we would receive anything above a 4th will be disappointed I think...

Another problem Dallas will have come draft day with the loss of Ireland will be that their will be an team out there that knows everything the Jerry and co. knows. Who we like and dislike and who we will move up or down for. BP is ruthless and I think in one of the rounds he'll use Ireland's knowledge of our draft plan to hurt us by beating us to the punch on a player.

Our draft board isn't going to be put together in the next month. If Ireland does leave before the Draft, I'm thinking it's going to be sooner rather than later.

But, yes, BP will know the "type" of player we want. That said, we also probably know the type of player he wants.

The only way *that* happens is if we let go of Ireland about, oh, two weeks before the draft. At this point people are still evaluating players without regards to setting up any draft plan or associating players with needs.

I guess it's good that you've brought my expectations down then. :(

But I suppose getting something is better than nothing.

That's the least of the problems. Teams know, pretty much, who each other is interested in weeks before the draft, so that's no big deal.

The blog says a "low round draft pick." I doubt it's higher than a 5th round pick.

Oh well . . . .

But boy, if it was even a 4th, for example, we could nicely package that with another pick and move up in the 2nd round.

I think there could be quite a few nice players to choose from end of the 1st to early-mid 2nd round this coming draft.

But you're probably right, it's going to be a low Day 2 pick.

I'm betting Ireland will be announced as the new Miami GM today. I feel good for the guy. He does deserve this.

I believe Tom Ciskowski will do a very good job here. He might even be better. IMO it is the Jay Ratliffs and Nick Folks and Deon Andersons you get on Day 2 that make a Draft a good one or a great one. The extra pick could be a gem.

Yes, we've been doing a good job in hitting on some of these Day 2 picks for sure.

McQuisten, Watkins as well. Very nice back-ups and even potential starters.

If Ireland was the HC, then I can see higher compensation. But, since he's not, the best case scenario is a 4th, which I doubt.

As far as the draft, I'm sure there's a preliminary board, but it will change after all the post-season games, individual workouts and the combine are completed. It will be interesting to see who's pulling the trigger on draft day-Jerrah, Wade or Ciskowski.

This is required for a great draft, but bombing in the first round can kill a draft. While I'm not calling Carpenter a complete bust yet, he is now on the doorstep of bust. Next year in my opinion is his last chance to start making real progress playing time wise.

I agree. I'm happy for the guy to get a chance, and will wait and see how we fare without him before I hit the panic button.

I don't agree with this. No Offense meant. If Hatcher, Watkins, and McQuistan all play here for 10 years it's a good Draft regardless of what Carpenter does.

While I agree with this...missing on a 1st has an impact on Salary cap dollars that could mean signing a needed FA or keeping the players on the team now... So it hurts a heck of a lot more to miss on a first than on any other pick... but yeah if you can pull out 3 10 year guys in any giving draft that is a successful draft...I think
