c'mon berg, you're as cold as ice! you got to be willing to sacrifice.:D

dude, i'm a long long way from home. : )

if we had a proven secondary and not (2) players 30 or over and the only relief in sight is a suspension waiting to happen, i could see it more.

if we had someone like bolden or roy williams at WR to compliment TO and our 1st/2nd WRs also over 30, i could see it more.

but when you put those two together, the risk becomes not only will dmac pan out, but - how will these positions hold up w/o being addressed in the same fashion as you're trying to address RB - where we already have a young pro bowl player there.

i understand people thinking mcfadden is a great player with a lot of potential, but the sacrafice would be a big one indeed if he turned out to be just another "good" back or worse.

then no roy or bolden.
no cason or talib.

i just think we need to work on balance, not roll the dice and hope.

I agree with that 100%. So many think that if your against the DMac trade, that you hate DMac. In my case nothing could be farther from the truth. I'd love to have this kid on the team. And, if Cleveland would have held their end of the bargain and sucked for us, I would be on cloud nine right now. The fact of the matter is the cost is just too much with the needs that we have at CB, RB, and WR. The whole story would be different if Jones would have panned out and re-signed, Terry Glenn was coming off another 1000 yrd year and our defensive backfield depth didn't suck balls. But none of those things are true. Not one. So Dmac, unfortunately is going to be the back that was "supposed to be" in a perfect world. The world's not perfect and we have serious needs at other positions. Just too expensive given our current state.

and next year there will be another "shiney object" everyone falls in love with we can't live without.

this is a deep draft for very productive RBs, making it even more of a gamble to roll on 1.

the cost is simply too high for where we are and what our other needs happen to be regardless of how many drafts we have in the next decade. (i count 10)

It isn't every year that you can effectively plug 3 needs in one draft because of the talent available.

Plugging one and ignoring the other 2 is silly. Even if the plug at the one is superior.

#1 were not plugging wr through the draft. so it basically leaves 2 positions.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the Dolphins have the same rookie cap space as the Giants. The NFL understands slotting and escalation. Therefore we'd be alotted a bit more cap space to get a deal done.

We could afford to pick in the top 5, when people talk about cost it is more about how much it would cost to get up there. Then if the player busts (and that possibility always does exist no matter how much we like a player or believe in him) it becomes an outrageous cost. Not only do you have a high salary and a bust, but you don't have the picks it cost you to get there.

I don't believe we will either, but we'll use one of the Draft picks you want to spend to do it.

Then what?

if we do i believe it will be for roy williams. millen would be smart to do it while he can get some value for roy. but millen isn't very smart and i think he keeps roy for 1 more year to help calvin. i think if you go to dc.com and look at the wrs on our roster you won't see anything different during next season.

People who say it's too costly (in terms of salary cap, not a trade-up scenario) either

(a) Don't understand that the cost is not all that great this season, and that most rookies renegotiate and extend before their initial contract hits the big cap-hit years, or

(b) Are afraid of missing on a high pick - no balls.
It would be nice if people could read. It would also be nice if ignore took care of quotations.

Was last year's offseason this acutely annoying?

I honestly can't remember.
In some ways it was. We had the daily exploits of Sheriff Roger Goodell, and all kinds of speculation about the cleanup of the NFL image.

I've never seen it quite like this though.

LOL

Rethink it, because I think this thinking needs to be better thought out.

Begin at the premise that we can acquire McFadden and go backwards. Unless he drops like a stone...no way it will happen.

ok the way i think we will get mcfadden is the same way you think we will get roy williams. but i don't see it cause millen is a fool.

Uh, no it isn't. I don't for one minute believe we will ransom 3 draft picks to acquire him. I don't believe we'll spread the cost over 2 years. I don't believe Jerry is that desperate. I believe he has said repeatedly he's not looking to do that. Even if people think he's blowing smoke, Stephen Jones rarely does and he said we won't make that deal.

I don't know how many ways it can be explained that we won't do this before the synapses fire.

Again...unless he drops hard in the Draft. Then, and only then, could I see Jerry rolling the dice. Why? Because the reward becomes greater than the risk.

It isn't rocket science.

ok i didn't mean it like that. i meant it as you feel pretty confident that we get roy as i feel pretty confident we get dmac. but like i said before i doubt millen deals roy. i think we will either get a vet wr(doubt it) or mcfadden(more likely imo). it's one or the other. so i feel jerry will go for mcfadden since he won't be able to get a vet wr(roy). that's how i see it right now.
