For those that didnt want to admit that Jerry pushes Zeke on his coaching staff, it should be clear now. Jerry is absolutely obsessed with Zeke and would never allow anything other than a dominantly featured role in the run game and even the passing game.

Interesting comments from #Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @nflnetwork, saying that Zeke Elliott “has to be the focus” in the run game. “He has to be the focal point” based on his work in the run game and pass game. “There is room for (Tony) Pollard while Zeke is in there.”

Jerry pushes Zeke and in 2016 Jerry pushed Dak . . . He is still trying to justify his idiotic decision

So pathetic that the guy cares more about being right than winning a SB. The fact that he cant see the value of a Pollard underlines why the guy is business man and not a real GM.

He said both on the field at the same time. I’m hoping he is pushing Kellen to use 21 personnel.

P.S. if McCarthy lets Jerry push coaching decisions then I have zero respect for him and should be fired ASAP.

I agree, but its also Moore that is calling the plays and designing them. He is the young buck that is probably more easily swayed.

That both on the field thing is a cop out. Pollard needs a full package of plays for himself in the run and the passing game. Nothing to do with Zeke. Now a few plays where Zeke blocks for Pollard would be nice.

As of right now Zeke is the best RB on the team. Until there is a better option Zeke should be pushed.

well, he paid 90M+ for him. he wants his return on investment.

and you know, jerry is a football guy

Is Jerry going to also push Dak for a return on that investment? Wait - he already is. By keeping substandard backups on the roster he is preventing Dak from facing any real competition. Dak has no choice but to play.

Wouldn't want to hurt Dak's feelings by having to make him earn his job and pay...

Here is the problem with this franchise in a nutshell: you have to overcome ownership to win. It has proven to be an insurmountable task for going on three decades now.. Playing time needs to be earned not demanded.

He is the best FB on the team I will give him that. Both running the ball and receiving Pollard is the better back. Zeke can block for Pollard and do some short yardage and GL stuff. Mop up duty.

They have rotated both of them early in the season but went away after the Denver game.

I personally like the 2 back system since it allows you to go to pass play from a run formation and vice versa. This is key to defeating the defensive scheme Denver installed to stop the Cowboys offense.

The RBs shouldn’t just be doing dump-offs as receivers they need to have full route tree to attack defenses in all areas of the field.

Sad part is Pollard has earned it 3 years running and the poor guy sits on the bench even when Zeke tears his MCL and cant average more than 3 ypc.

I like a 3 back system with the top 2 getting most of the carries.

Zeke needs carries, just a lot less. 50/50 sounds right with Pollard featured in the passing game.

Denver didnt figure out anything. They simply installed a defense that works against teams with a weak run game and strong passing game. Once the Oline went in the toilet people were daring us to run and Zeke couldnt make them pay. EVER!

It's not just Jerry, Stephen called him a warrior a few months ago. No question he's a front officer favorite but I see Jerry's comments as a reference to this being the final year of Zeke's guaranteed contract money. They need to know/see how much he has left in the tank. Also, Zeke had the lowest rushing attempts ( 237) of his career last season. For context, compare that to DeMarco Murray had 392 carries in 2014 playing 16 games.

In other words, I think Jerry's looking down the road a bit at Zeke's future with the team.

I dont see that at all. If Jerry doenst know what he has in Zeke by now he needs to quit football.

Its a point blank statement that ZEKE HAS TO BE THE FOCAL POINT!!! PERIOD!!!

IN THE RUN AND PASS GAME!!

There is no misinterpreting that statement right there.

I wonder when Jerry will let McCarthy know who our starting WR will be next to CeeDee when Gallup is out…

It's not what Zeke has but how much he has left. Remember he played most of last season injured. So I'm guessing Jerry is saying since he's healthy we need to see if he can still be a lead RB.

In other words, Jerry's saying doesn't mean it happens. The REAL question .....CAN ZEKE BE THE FOCAL POINT?
