If Jonathan Mingo makes the 53-man roster

Downs is good enough to replace him on punt returns. Izzy is good enough to replace Turpin on kickoff returns. Mingo can play on all special teams. Brown and Mingo can replace Turpin on offense.

You cannot risk Downs for that is the problem.

If you lose him then you lose two starting positions.

I'm not pushing for Mingo to be the returner at all.

In fact, I'm not pushing to move Turpin out of returner. None of that is what I was talking about.

The team reserved a ST spot for Goodwin because he was a solid gunner. With him retired, I'm saying Mingo might find his way on to the roster that way.

After that, he is also a wide receiver so if they primarily kept him due to ST then that would mean he's the #6 receiver as well simply by numbers.

This is not really about Turpin-vs-Mingo.

I think Turpin would only lose his roster spot if the team felt they could get a cheaper and/or better returner from one of the other young players.

As for Mingo, he's in a bad situation because he's fighting Brown for that last receiver spot and he's doing it on a team that has a lot of questions with defensive backs which along with wide receivers are commonly used as gunners.

The team may want to keep Mingo in that ST position but they may need the defensive back depth more so they go that route.

The best thing Mingo can do right now to make this team is 1) stay healthy (which he's struggled to do in some preseasons) and 2) hope the defensive backs solidify themselves to where DB depth need doesn't make the decision for the team.

Now, if one of the top receivers gets injured, then that changes things as he would go from #6 to #5 in WR depth as well.

That said, there's still time for him to show more at WR and for other WR's to decline some.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Mingo has not showed up for two seasons and now he has competition and he's trying to survive. I don't trust him showing up during the regular season. Go with the younger guys.

Smith hasn't done a single thing at all why would you put him above Mingo just because you know what they gave up for him you know that front office wants him here You're putting a guy over that has potential I get it I know the guy's got good hands he's had a pretty good camp but if we're just looking at so far what we've seen and now we have a live game to add in I'm sorry but maybe Mingo gets back into the conversation i'm not saying he's wrote his name in ink but pencil maybe..

It reminds me of Holden which by the way was he even in the game or the sideline or has he even been mentioned throughout camp or practice i'm thinking this dude's not even on the team What happened after camp last year that's why you need to hold up a little I want you to think of Smith just given the fact that the front office likes him they gave up a lot for him and now he's starting to flash a bit he reminds me of Noah Brown who took a while but Noah Brown contributed not just to the Cowboys but also to the Commanders Enough to realize that maybe Mingo yes we overpaid for him but that's the reason he might stay but he might be finally figuring it out enough to make the team

Yes I agree Turpin will be here the whole year no matter what happens I'm sorry but he hasn't lost his job if you've been watching special teams it's not really him last year it was a whole bunch of turnover with injuries on defense which most of those dudes usually play also on special teams I don't think the blocking was there I don't think they did anything to help him out at all But he's also good as a 4th wide receiver It Mingo's not turpin when it comes to special teams.

However maybe this year they groom Blue I would love to see Blue do that and I don't know why he wasn't on special teams and why Mingo was fielding kicks.. I mean I do realize that's what preseason is about they're just doing crazy things 'cause they can just to see who can catch and feel the ball in case it's necessary in the emergency..


Blue is the only guy on this team that can do what Turpin does both in on the offense and special teams so he'd be the only one right now on this team that could take that role so he is not a threat to Turpin nobody's a threat to Turpin what Turpin does is different than everyone else and people should stop judging him but he had a couple of the longest plays from scrimmage on offense last year and just because on STS it didn't look like he was doing a lot he still was doing a pretty good amount of good work...


It's a long and short of what I'm saying is I don't think it was his fault with special teams last year and I'm betting if you go back and check his yards and all that stuff he was still up there with the best returners last year and again some of the longest catches from scrimmage meaning air yards on offense he still has a role on this team..


Mingo is fighting with guys like Smith the rookie and Brown who just show it out That's who's gonna be fighting through this camp and the rest of the preseason games because they have similar games so they're gonna have to fight and Holden disappeared II don't know where Holden went I hadn't heard his name once in camp or the scrimmage or last night maybe I wasn't looking 'cause I didn't watch the second half but I haven't even heard his name in here or anywhere and he was one of the heroes last year the pet cats.

I would keep Brown and Mingo over Turpin. Mingo could be the return guy and they could use Downs when they need a big return.

So, three time pro bowl special teams returner is on the trash heap and Jonathan Mingo is supposed to replace him.

I’m also seeing opinions that Blue can replace Turpin or Downs.

People just willing to completely flush the return team for Mingo or Smith.

That’s wild. And thankfully it will never happen.

He has a first and second team All-Pro on his resume.

He led the league in KO return yardage.

Not sure where the Turpin hate came from. IMO he fell off last year because we have a sub-par ST coordinator.

Mingo can do more things than Turpin.

turpin is one of the best returners in the game and get the ball in his hands, 2, 3 times a game for his speed, just to keep defense on their toes.

Mingo sucks.

The things about a 5th receiver is they're almost never active on game day.

Valdez-Scatling is gone. Mingo probably is, too, unless....is Turpin safe?

I think turpin is safe. he is a great returner and has speed that can be used a couple or 3 plays a game.

not as a main reciever, but he makes a play or two over the games, enough for defenses to have to account for his speed.

Mingo had a few catches as well. And his other opportunities were low % catches.

Remember for 2 or 3 years how many were this excited over Cropper also.

mingo is a veteran. in 3 years iin the league he has had zero TD catches...not even an accidental one.

Mingo is around 4.4 right?

I am not saying straight ahead speed isn't important, but running routes and getting separation are most important and Mingo and his 4.4 speed suck at those.
