If Lance were signed for next 3 years

There is no reason to play him if they don’t see him in the future
Apparently that’s the case
It’s that simple

Zero from Lance and Mingo shut out although he’s not playing with a starting NFL QB although you could argue he didn’t mesh with Bryce Young either .

Jerry’s dealt double 4’s and so far zilch . SF got a starting safety out of the Lance pick be interesting to see who Carolina gets for Mingo .

If Trey has a major issue, it is just seeing the field.
In other words, he zones in on a player and tries to make a last second throw, not seeing a defender coming from the other direction. This is common, and keeps many, many quarterbacks. From NFL success

So, they pissed away a 4th rounder for a one-year rental 3rd string QB.

Man, these dudes are such easy marks, the rest of the league loves doing deals with these idiots.

He’s terrible, I get it. But if this FO thought he was worth giving up a 4th and paying him $5 mil this year, I don’t understand why when now the season is essentially over, they aren’t playing him.

What are they afraid of? Losing some games? Lol!

Trey Lance is garbage at this point but so is this team. I say it’s Trey Lance time! The only way a guy like that gets better is by playing.
Why play him if they don’t see him around next year ?

The extremely low probability that he looks like a decent/good NFL QB with the starters (who are healthy). That could parlay a decent one year deal and net the team a compensatory pick.

Since Rush has no future either, it makes sense to do a no risk/high reward scenario.

I don't think they plan to sign him, but if they did I would have to assume it will be for more money that a 3rd string QB. That would mean he has to play at some point even if it is only garbage time.

That drives his price up. He’s a FA.

Agree that the odds are against him; I guess my point was, and probably a poorly articulated one, that preserving even a 4th round pick is important when a team builds predominately via the draft…Jerry cannot afford to waste any picks.
oh, I don't disagree with you. every pick is important. and it ticks me off, we gave up another 4th for Mingo, who was the 5th WR on their team........

Your scenario involved the team seeing no future with him. If that’s the case, who cares if his price goes up. If they do think there is a future with him, then this is one of the only times you could just put him in to see.

Plus $7 million in salary over 2 years for a team that was struggling to find cap space. A really bad deal. Another Jerry Jones special. Really, really dumb.
oh, 100% agree. stupid trade from day 1.

my point was that he cost a 4th rounder, not a high round pick, so its less valued. although 4th round is always a tricky round.

Exactly, the drama for that 4th rounder on this place, like this FO is not blowing 2nd round picks year in and year out.

I would do it again, the kid was a top prospect for cheap, if he wont work out so be it.
I wouldn't do it. wouldn't have done it for a 4th.

why? there was no NFL game tape. there was actual NFL play that proved he is not a top talent. he is probably 5th, or 6th round talent. the game was over his head.
its not about running ability or just having a strong arm. there are 100s of those each year. if everyone one of those strong, fast QBs would translate to NFL, then there wouldn't be a QB problem in the NFL. it would be flooded and salaries wouldn't be sky rocketing.

this kid was obviously over drafted. other teams were also interested per rumors back then, but nobody was offering anything more than a 6th.

Because they have seen him at practice for 2 years.

I get it, they could have gotten a better deal, Jerry can't avoid showing too soon his eagerness these days. How this team FO runs is an incredible disadvantage.

He'll probably go somewhere else, suck for nine games and then finally have it click. Then he'll lead that team to the playoffs. And we'll be sitting here in a decade analyzing it like Brett Favre and Jerry Glanville.

I'm guessing it is hard to justify game time for him because he is not performing well in practice.
Or Jerry thinks he can get him to re sign cheaper if there are no teams interested in him. By not playing, it's impossible to drive his price up. Everyone will think he's so bad in practice that he can't get on the field on Sundays.

This is a classic example of Jerry playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers, or at least he will sell it that way.
