If LeCharles Bentley becomes available, Jerry would be a fool to pass him up.

If Bently becomes a FA I would not be at all surprised to see this team pass on him. Heck we are passin on a good chance to seriously upgrade at DC with Dom Capers but we dont do it. We keep a guy like Sparano on this staff after what we saw from our OL. So I do not expect anything big like a Bently even if he becomes a FA.

I have to ask this question, as I dont know much about Lecharles Bently.

How likely is it that we get into a bidding war for him and which teams need a center maybe worst than we do?

Center's dont get the kind of money tackles or guards do, even the best come cheaper than even some average tackles/guards.

There will be a bidding war, Bentley was also a probowler as a guard

Yep.

That is what I figured.

IMO it would be worth bidding on though, we use him at center for a season ro 2 and then move him back to guard and find a new center

When did this guy become the second coming of Jim Otto/Mike Webster/Mark Stepnoski? He's all I ever hear about. BTW, if we were ecstatic about Rivera, why are so sure about this guy?

Who was ecstatic about Rivera? He was an upgrade over what we had, but he was hurt all year. He has one more chance.

Bentley would be the best option because he is a Pro Bowler and he is young. Something you don't see available very often. I would even sign him and cut Allen, move Peterman into LG. That way, we have two cheap OL and three expensive. We can't have 5 making top money, and Larry Allen is nowhere near worth what he is making.

I'm obviously referring to the reaction when we signed him last March.

Anyone here willing to trade an Ellis or Glover for a Bentley?

I say Ellis and a late draft pick for Bentley would be a pretty good deal, 4th or 5th rounder shipped to NO for LeCharles Bentley.
I doubt they do it though. I wish it would happen though!!!!!!!!

huh? that's not what you trade for a franchise player -- if they do use the tag on him.

Jerry passed up on LeCharles 7 years ago, as funny as it sounds he might over pay to get him now. Unfortunately I do not expect him to pay big bucks to yet another OL. Stranger things have happened before though. The last two centers Dallas had were Moose and Donaldson, two polar opposites when it comes to how center is played. I think Bill would be more inclined to get a Donaldson, a big earthmover to anchor the center of the line. I just hope he gets one.

I don't know why the heck the Cowboys passed him up in favor of Andre Gurode. He was higher on all the draft boards I read.

Joel Buchsbaum and Rick Gosselin, two of the best draft gurus around in 2002, both had Gurode going before Bentley in the draft. So did Mel Kiper, Frank Coyle, Dr. Z, Huddle Report, NFL Draft Countdown, Draft Insiders and every other major mock I draft can find from 2002. And most of those had Gurode going in the first round.

And by the way, the Cowboys' draft board put together by Larry Lacewell and crew had Gurode ranked 28th overall and Bentley 35th.

Some gurus they are.

Man.... leave it to Mr. "Photographic Memory" Adam to ruin a good ol' fashioned exaggeration. :p: Honestly, I swear I read some draft pubs that had him ahead of Gurode. Going off the top of my head, I think The Sporting News had him #1. (They also had Antonio Bryant as their #1 receiver. :D )

Ellis for Bentley would be a good trade for both IMO. Glover would just be too ironic. The thing is though, we shouldn't have to trade anyone for him, just sign him, unless we try to do a sign and trade deal. I'd be cool with that.

I agree with the original post...I don't think there could be a bigger impacting FA signing this offseason (realistically and w/o TO) than Bentley. I think Bentley would change the entire OL for the much much better. We got blown up in the middle all season, not to mention all the botched snaps, etc.
IMO, Bentley is a "must-sign" this offseason. If not him, another big name C has to be found. AJ can't get it done.

That same 2002 draft board that produced:

Gurode - backup
AB - Bye Bye character
Ross - Bye Bye character
Martin - Bye Bye
Dev Johnson - - possibly worst pick - EVER
Walters - Bye Bye

Other than Roy/James do we have anything to show for that draft?

I am so glad Lacewell is gone and Parcells/Ireland are mining football players

Dallas is not the only NFL team.

Other teams will be after Bentley too. FYI
