If McCarthy calls the plays, who will take the blame if the offense fails?

You pile up 50 against Indy hang 40 on Minny move the ball against the Giants and sweep real nice game against TB but go win SB trophies have to eliminate turnovers and obviously scoring 13 ( missed PAT ) won’t cut it. Look Tom Landry lost a SB 16-13 .

He’s won 2 league MVPS.

It’s hard for elite QBs to win a Super Bowl after getting these team crushing contracts. Much less a Dak.
They really need to be reserved for guys that can truly overcome roster deficiencies on their own.

But…things like supply and demand causes it to spill into the average guys.

As in….the teams run by guys under pressure to win…when your choices are…’overpay Prescott and keep my job, or get fired..’

You’re right on this, but if Dallas didn’t give Prescott that deal, probably 6-8 other teams would have.

The problem was not signing him for 30 when the team was at 27. The prices got stupidly out of control front there.

It’s rare that a player could justify being worth that percentage of overall payroll. Very rare.

The case could be made that the only non rookie contract that isn’t underperforming is Mahomes.

It's all on McCarthy now and it should be. He now has control over the offense, so it's incumbent upon him to make the necessary changes to improve the unit. This is what he should have been hired for, but Jerry has his own way of doing things.

Mark Tauscher is a former Packer Right Tackle. Jason Wilde is a long, long time Packer beat writer. They have an ESPN show dedicated to all things Packers.

Tauscher played with Rob Davis and for McCarthy and Philbin. He likes all 3 of them. Wilde, at the very least, likes Mac and loves Philbin.

Take it FWIW, but both Tauscher and Wilde have been openly speculating that the departures of Philbin and Davis do not bode well for Big Mac's future in Dallas.

Tauscher; "Rob (Davis) is an impactful cat." "The Rob Davis thing is insane to me. It just blows my mind."

"I don't think there is any way on Earth Mike McCarthy would not keep Rob Davis ... I think Jerry mandated that ... I know how that relationship (Big Mac-Davis) is and I just can't fathom that it would be anything other than ... a deal handed down by ownership."

And they have both repeatedly indicated that Dan Quinn's return as DC means that Big Mac is on a very short leash as Quinn is well positioned to take over if/when things go south in Dallas.

Again, FWIW.

very logical and plausable. MM has to reach the CCG next season to show improvement and that he is the guy . I think Jerry is realizing if the defense is in good hands with Quinn and MM cannot fix the offense after Kellen is gone , then MM is the problem . Quinn slides in as a coach. I cannot imagine MM is feeling safe with Quinn on the staff and being popular with the players. Just seems MM is over his head and is a bus driver , trainer type of coach. the authority is not there and the palyers sniff that.

Makes sense in twilight zone known as Jerryworld. Quinn will become a careful what you wish for outcome in Dallas. He may not even want to be the HC there after seeing how the Jones' operate the last few years. He does have McCarthy as a buffer now and I think the two make a good coaching tandem.

Not sure how much input or blame/credit a new OC will get if McCarthy calls the plays himself.
If they hire Carolina RB coach as OC, then he only gets the blame if the run game is not good enough.
- McCarthy clearly gets the blame if the pass game struggles.

McCarthy has 2 years remaining on his contract.
- The Cowboys don't like to fire coaches before their contract expires (contracts are guaranteed).
- Having said that, Stephen Jones and Will McClay have been Dan Quinn fans for a long time.
- They wanted to hire him back in 2013 as D-Coordinator (He was DC at Florida but went back to Seattle in 2013 as their DC).
