I doubt if Garrett would ever get another head coaching job.

He looks to be a career QB coach, if he wants to continue his coaching career.

I like Whisenhunt.

Jerry would probably go after a Jon Gruden. I was thinking about that while I watching MNF last night.

Gruden would be my choice.

Just curious. Why?

Why what? Why I prefer Garrett? I think he's a good coach and a perfect temperamental fit for a very difficult head coaching situation in Dallas. I think he's built a talented and deep roster, with very little in the way of salary cap and nothing extra in the way of draft resources. I think we've got a good coaching staff and, overall, a good thing going in Dallas right now, and I wouldn't upset that applecart.

I like Tomlin, too. I don't blame him much for the personnel situation in PIT right now. They're on the back end of an upward arc that netted them two Superbowl trophies. It takes time to get bad enough to blow up a roster like that. But the real secret sauce in PIT is Dick LeBeau. Put that defense together with good QB play like you get with Roethlisberger, and you're likely to have success. Now that the defense isn't as tough and the OL can't protect well enough, you don't have the passing game advantages you used to, and the team's going to lose.

It's the same problem we've got in Dallas. We need to be able to keep good teams from passing all over us. I don't believe that's a coaching problem, and I do believe the guy we've got is serious about juggling until that problem gets addressed. I just don't know what the problem really is right now, because we've juggled both players and coaches there, and it isn't helping, yet.

What has Garrett EVER done to warrant this much optimism? If he continues his .500 ways...why on EARTH would he deserve another shot anytime soon? He had ZERO track record when he got this job. And he has done little to show anyone he deserved this job!

Well I just see what a mess this was just 3 years ago. I see the culture change. I see the much better draft picks. I atleast see Garrett's direction. I don't know if you know how bad this organization was just 2 years ago. And yes I know we're "mediocre". But this team was TERRIBLE not long ago. I've seen progression. I also understand progression takes time but with some fans I also understand some don't want to wait for progression.

Any coach brought into Dallas would still have to deal with the same GM and front office that Gailey and Campo and Parcells and Philips and Garrett have had to (are) deal(ing) with.

Tomlin has been bailed out by the talent Cowher compiled before his retirement. Players like:

Roethlisberger
James Farrior
Larry Foote
Casey Hampton
James Harrison
Chris Hoke
Chris Hope
Brett Keisel
Travis Kierschke
Bryant McFadden
Heath Miller
Troy Polamalu
Joey Porter
Aaron Smith
Deshea Townsend
Ike Taylor
Kimo Von Oelhoffen
Hines Ward

Once most of those players are no longer with the team (only has Roethlisberger, Miller, Polamalu and Taylor), they are now 0-4.

He's been terrible at developing talent. The only players he's really developed of his own are Timmons, Woodley and Antonio Brown.

To Garrett's credit, he's developed Murray, Tyron, Dez (drafted by Wade, but it was Wade's last 1/2 year with the team), Harris, Lee, Carter (if he turns it around), Church and Bailey. That doesn't include Frederick, Leary, Beasley, Dunbar, Selvie, Clairborne (again, if he turns it around) and Wilcox.

Could we do better than Garrett?

I think so.

But, I'm wholeheartedly unimpressed with Mike Tomlin and to me it was just a matter of time before Pittsburgh became really bad.

I don't know, everyone loved tomlin for years because he yells a lot, wears sunglasses and supposedly puts fear in players.

the thing with that is he is still doing the same thing except now he has a lousy roster and injuries and he is 0-4.

so the yelling really isn't helping.

I'm not sold on Tomlin over all. I know he's a good coach as long as there is a good team there built by someone else.

The Superbowl teams he had was built by Cowher. I haven't seen them do too much to replace the players they've been losing with quality players since Tomlin has been there.

I am not opposed in any way to getting a more experienced and better HC, by all means do so, but I'm just not sure Tomlin is the guy I'd point to as that, at this point.

I know Pittsburgh is known to stick it out with a Head Coach. So I doubt he becomes available...but if he does....GO GET HIM. I know many will point to the last 2 seasons...but hey...I can point to the last 17+ seasons in Dallas. Mike Tomline will NOT have to worry about the organization not getting and/or keeping the roster talented because of MONEY. Pittsburgh does what Pittsburgh does...they let people walk when it is time to pay them...and they are reaping the results of those actions right now....that will not be the case in Dallas. What do you guys think?

I think I'd rather do things the way Pittsburgh does it.

Agreed. He's got a little Barry Switzer to him only he sustained himself longer because of being in a much more sound environment for a coach than what Barry had here.

No interest at all.

But Gruden? Yes. Holmgren? Yes. Dungy? Yes.

I agree and I'd add Lovie Smith to that list as well. I don't know if anyone else is big on him but I'm a big fan of Lovie and I think he could do well here for us.

If JJ wants a hard-nosed coach who looks mean, then I would prefer Gruden over Tomlin. I still believe Holmgren would be a good choice to fill the position for a few years until our future HC comes available. Maybe even find someone to learn under Holmgren in the meantime. Mike could take the talent this team has now and work with it, specifically speaking about the offense. Let Marinelli take over the defense under the same time-frame as Holmgren(Kiffin is almost finished as a DC, too old).

Jason Garrett will be our Head Coach for a long time, and most will be glad of it by the end of this season. Calling my shot now.

I don't understand why Tomlin? He had won with the core from cowher after that nothing, the D has aged and the O is spotty , up n down , rather down of late...he is a walk around coach , not offensive or defensive genius... Also withJerry here nothing changes

Sure he looks mean and tough ... But I would go for some real young one who has been reviving either college or nfl franchise. Mistake to let Sean Peyton to go
