You’re more likely to see coaches with no connections when the HC is first hired and building from scratch. Not when the coach has been there for a certain amount of time.

In fact idk any established coach (> 2 years) that does that. I’m sure even Norv had some connection to Ron Rivera. Usually it’s they each worked with the same guy which broadens the look a bit.

Norv will be a fun hire. He took a mobile QB with accuracy issues and a workhorse RB and completely transformed the Carolina offense.

the 49ers have two younger guys I like that are kind of sharing the offensive coordinator role there... Mike LaFleur (age 31 Matt's brother) and Mike McDaniel (age 35) working under Kyle Shanahan. Either would be a good hire and the lure of a Jerry Jones-sized assistants contract, the full OC title, and full control of the offense might be enough.

Another "named" assistant they could jump on is Scott Turner (age 36, Norv's son). He is currently the QB coach at Carolina. He had previously worked at the University of Michigan, the Vikings, the Browns, and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a back-up quarterback at UNLV.

Anyone that tosses Garrett's playbook in the trash and can gameplan for our QB's and offense's skillsets and make adjustments during the game based on what opposing defenses show.

Literally ANYONE that can do that.
