He would have still got paid. I mean Cousins blew his foot out and still got paid. It’s the NFL
Exactly...my goodness, this injury doesn't change anything and besides, it's only a hamstring. If we are talking about an ACL or broken shoulder, maybe.

But you've seen the product that is now Dak.

Can't run, weak arm, lost the team, and wide-eyed stares at the end of games on the bench.

That's who he is now, and it will only decline sharply downward from here.

And he's owed a king's ransom.

This team won't get straightened out until the 2030s.

If then.

Imagine if Dallas let Dak play out this season before discussing his contract....

We're 3-5, looking really hard at a 5-6 win season at most. Dak is hurt for several weeks and is playing like junk.

What would his market be in 3 months?

Instead, he has a $240 million deal at $60 per year that doesn't begin until the 2025 season.

With this level of negotiation skills, how did Jerry ever get wealthy? I know, I know, one day he was out shooting food, and up from the ground came a bubblin' crude.
A smart GM would have seen the storm on the horizon that was this upcoming season of facing quality teams with tough defenses instead of the tomato cans he played during his MVP bridesmaid/All Pro season, and waited it out to see if he could replicate it.

Most of us all suspected exactly how this season was going to play out and wanted them to wait or try to trade him at his highest value. We knew this was going to be a bear market season for Dak.

If the Cowboys were going to pay full price, then there was nothing to lose by waiting until the season was over. Either sign Dak early for a discount, or sign him after the season at full price. This was just a dumb move by a hobbyist amateur GM.

Of course, Dak should have never been signed at all. Rewarding his epic choke by making him the highest paid QB can only be explained by senility.

And yes.... he would have been cheaper to sign after a very poor performance this season and post injury.

It would be Obvious that Dak is not worth any amount of money . He's washed !!

So who cares what another team would have paid for the Choker !
The point is, it would not have been us !!
again, that's the fans opinion, yet not commonly held opinion around NFL or any of the analysts....but I get the hate the cowboys fandom pours out...

and you put mahomes here, we are not going to make the playoffs. this is a bigger mess than just one player.

Signing Dak on opening day was the dumbest decision possible. You expect nothing less from this organization!

No matter what any of us feel about Dak. The guy was the NFL MVP runner up and an All Pro....at the most critical position in the NFL. I fail to understand the logic of some fans.

It was so painfully obvious. Amazing that folks are still acting like we had not choice but sign him or that he would get the same this upcoming off season.

Same deal with Tua. Miami knew about his concussion history and gave him $200M guaranteed anyway.

Daniel Jones and Derek Carr are making $40M/yr, almost all guaranteed. That's just where the QB market is at right now.

Dak would have got paid regardless, it's just a question of whether he'd get paid by Jerry.

Hahaha, I gave you a like just for the Beverly Hillbilly's reference. Just like the Trey Lance deal this is a real head scratcher

I mostly agree but at least then you are paying premium money for a premium player at the most important position.

Instead, they just gave the kingdom to a guy who had no skins on the wall. In fact, he had skeletons in the closet and it was their closet! So, they knew full well the issues (or should have).

It is beyond explanation. Jerry should have stuck to his "perform under pressure" ethos.

What’s funny is they will probably be in position to draft a quality QB but nope. We get another 5 years of Crap Prescott at a premium price! How very exciting!

You all have been watching the Cowboys long enough. If Jerry had waited, Dak would have about 24 TDs and 1 int making him worth $75 million.

I thought for sure they were going to let it ride and said it many times on here.

They just cracked....mostly bc of public pressure IMO.

Yeah but what was the point of giving him a mega deal at the midnight hour?

Let him play a year to prove his worth. He would’ve had more incentive to ball out and prove the haters wrong.

Now he’s hurt and will be sitting at home getting stupid money for doing nothing. No more sene of urgency from Dak.
