If Parcells is so good?

After 3 yrs of Campo, I was excited when Jones put his ego aside and went out and hired a real coach.

Not only a real coach, but one of the best of all time.

Every problem that I felt was created by a pretender head coach would be rectified.

And so it was, 10-6 and in the playoffs the first year.

But now, 3 yrs later I ask myself, if Parcells is so good, why has he not addressed the most important ingredient in building a football team ?

Anyone that knows anything about football, or anyone that wants to pretend that they know anything about football knows that the foundation or "building block" that you must have to even begin to build a football team is a great offensive line.

A great offensive line makes an average QB or an average RB real good. I actually think our RB and QB are even better than average, so they could really benefit from a quality offensive line.

But here we are 4 yrs after Parcells got here and still can't run when we need to, or protect the pocket.

I know, I know we have some good rushing stats this year, but surely you noticed that when we needed to run, (3rd & short, 4th & short, goalline) even our human battering ram couldn't find a hole.

Four drafts later, four free agency signing periods later, four years of trade opportunities, four years to train and improve someone already on the roster, and still the No.1 ingredient, the first thing you learn in football 101, the main thing you need to have a winning football team is still lacking here in Dallas.

So back to my original question and the title of this thread, if Parcells is so good, why don't we have this taken care of by now ?

Tune in next time when we question why our defensive line can't pressure the pocket after 4 yrs.

Parcells has tried to develop one, but just hasn't been successful or lucky enough. He drafted someone who was actually a pansy covered by a 6' 4" frame - Jacob Rogers. He inherited Flozell, who he thinks can be all world if he actually concentrates, and tried to actually get him to do that, but apparently, it's like talking to a wall sometimes. He thought he upgraded with Rivera, but the guy's back went out, and apparently is pansy #2 in a 6' 4" frame. He's developed Colombo nicely. He drafted Pat, who from Bill's comments, once he "gets it", is a future superstar in the making. Gurode has been developed and has started to play very well under Parcells. Al Johnson, though technically sound, is pansy #3 in a 6' 4" frame. It's not like he's not tried to upgrade the talent. He's just been unlucky or unsuccessful.

So, are you saying that it's the players' fault for not living up to the head coach's expectations?

You may be right, but what does that say about the head coach's ability to put together a quality team?

Tuna is 4 games over .500 with two playoff losses after 4 years.

It only took Gailey 2 years to accomplish the exact same record, yet he got fired.

Gailey got fired because of his relationship with Aikman.

Aikman had no room for complaints as David LaFleur was his guy, remember?

Aikman also signed off on the Galloway deal with JJ, remember?

Well, I'm not saying Aikman had this or that. Just that Gailey was fired not because his lack of success, but because of Aikman not believing in his schemes. And during that time period, JJ did anything and everything to appease Aikman.

As for wanting LaFleur, Aikman worked out with both Gonzalez and LaFleur. He liked both of them, but Gonzalez was gone way before the Cowboys had a chance to pick him.

Like Parcells said, "you are what you are."

So no matter how much I like him, or how bad I want him to succeed here, "he is what he is," and "his record is what it is."

And as much as I want it to, I don't see it changing.

BP has had good luck with his guys that he picks in most places- except the line. Rogers was his choice- so he gets full blame for that one. Rivera was just plain BAD luck- wahle was not going to come here. He was a pro bowl guard the same year we picked him up- then he messed his back and pretty much it was all over. Gurode has finally come around; Johnson was pretty good but just is not tough enough. Columbo was a total FIND by BP- everyone else had given up on him. To my way of thinking Columbo makes up for Rogers. Peterman is the other blown one. However, If Proctor and McQuistan are as good as BP thinke- especially McQ- then actually BP will have come out even in his picks: ROgers, Peterman and too a lesser extent Johnson vs McQ, Columbo and Proctor. And BP did remake Gurode by putting him full time at center.

You have to use Parcells own "rules" in judging him .....

"you are what you are"
"Eventually a Vet has to show me something"
and the "3 year rule to find out if someone still has it"

Parcells has failed ALL 3

We are in agreement right, that had he shocked the world even more in '03 by instead of just making it to the playoffs with that outfit we had actually gone far deeper.. say by just simply ourselves having signed Delhomme and Stephen Davis instead of going with QC/T-Ham... that we'd be wanting to can him right now anyway for everything thats happened since with game day moves and personnel issues?

I assume it would be no different than a number of other coaches over the last few years that got to Chamioinship games or SB's in their first or second year and then are on the hot seat/canned a couple years later cause they're stuck around the .500 mark when the expectations had been higher.

Let's be honest, if his name wasn't Parcells, he would have been fired the day after the Seattle game. what has he done in the past 15 years in the NFL.....not a damn thing.

Yesterday should have confirmed to all you doubters that it was Belicheck who was the brains behind the championships when he was with Parcells.

yesterday confirmed to me that if brady played for the chargers, the chargers would have won.

Tom Brady is magical. He has that intangible quality that cant be measured in stats or height and weight.

If brady pulls off the win this week in indy, He is going to be moving up the ladder of all timers, some people are going to be shoved out of the way.

BB deserves a lot of credit, but if he brought his team out there yesterday with rivers, hassleback, grossman, romo, garcia and possibly manning he would have lost.

Tom Brady is the reason for the winning.

I am sure every coach in the playoffs had good game plans and did exactly what they wanted but did not execute well. brady is money.

The colts must sick to their stomachs knowing he is going there.

This colts pats game is going to be an all time great. Colts finally get them at home, they hav adam v......it is great.

I cant wait until we play in games like this again.
