Taylor would have to re-do his contract, which I read he would, but would still probably cost at least $5M. We would have to cut or trade Ellis to save his salary, around $3.5M I think. It might only be worth it if we could talk Taylor into playing more than just 2008 because they want a high draft pick. A Spencer/Ellis platoon can be pretty strong.

As stated above, Hamlin and Canty deals would save space this year and Roy ain't coming.

Taylor would play for 2 years. I would trade Marcus Spears and a draft pick in a heart beat to Miami. As for the argument that Spears and Taylor don't play the same position, then Canty could easily flip with Taylor.

Marcus Spears will NOT be an impact player in this league. Why wouldn't Parcells stake Spears and a mid-round draft pick for Taylor, especially since NO ONE in their right mind is going to give up a 1st or 2nd rounder for Taylor. If Taylor plans to play for only one more year in Miami, then Parcells would be stupid not to ship him off for the aforementioned trade. However, I think if Taylor comes to Dallas, then he plays for at least two more years. And no, I do not see ANY trade scenario with Miami that would involve Greg Ellis.

Taylor doesn't play Canty's position either.

You are 0-2.

Could we sign all of them, sure we could. Hamlin will actually lower the cap dollars for this year and Canty's contract will be similar to Ratliff's.

If we traded for Roy Williams and redid his contract, it would probably be the hardest hit but remember if we do trade for him then we probably release Glenn which would add cap dollars.

On Jason Taylor, seriously doubt we would even make a play there. Why, we aren't giving up a draft pick that Miami would take for a one year player even if he redid his contract. Plus we have Ware, Ellis, Spencer, Walden, and a couple of others. Walden has been looking good in OTAs and will probably make an impact on special teams this year. Question, is Taylor going to help us that much especially with Spencer, Ware and Ellis. Not sure about that. Plus the money would be high although we could fit it in.

If Walden has been looking that good, doesn't this make Bobby Carpenter MORE expendable, barring injuries? I could see a trade of Spears and Carpenter for Taylor.

Also, having Taylor on the d-line would just add one more serious pass rusher on 1st and 2nd downs, which Spears clearly isn't.

Who wouldn't want a pass rush threat of Ellis, Ware, AND Taylor on 1st and 2nd downs?

You are 0-2.

Are you saying that Taylor doesn't EVER play LDE or RDE in the 3-4 scheme?:bang2:

ok now seriously....sense apparently to post on this thread we have to be serious , this is a very terrible idea. You want to trade an average, serviceable guy that, if the team wants, has a good deal of time left, PLUS a draft pick that could be good and play for years, for a guy you yourself admits will play for 2 years tops (1 year is more likely in my view). In addition do we really want ANOTHER whiner? Thats just not a good idea. You are not going to have all-pros at every single position in the salary cap era...you just have to deal with it.

Why is it such a terrible idea to trade away an AVERAGE DE (sic Spears) and a 1st round LB who STILL won't start in his 3rd year, nor does it look like he will EVER start for this team, barring injuries? My point is, Spears and Carpenter are EASILY replaceable. Getting Taylor in a contract-friendly trade for 2 more years just takes our defense over the top.

Whoever said that Taylor was a whiner, anyway? In over twelve years in the league, this is the FIRST time we have so much as heard a whimper out of Taylor. I wonder who else could be at the center of this controversy? Might it be an over-bearing GM who could shop for the groceries but couldn't cook the meal?

wow, i did not realize you were even talking about trading Carpenter, I thought you said a middle round draft pick + spears...which i still think is a terrible idea.....through carpenter in the mix and its just down right awful....

Jason Taylor is not that good...Carpenter was a 1st round pick that may just need a little bit of time...he has had his moments...if he does not produce this year then yeah maybe get rid of him but don't trade your first round draft pick after two years, especially for a player that does not fit and will only be here for another two at most!!!

you can't ask for serious posters in a post having anything to do with jason taylor being a cowboy. that's just a party foul man.

I agree, but also like the question minus the Taylor talk. ;)

now you've got it, he plays OLB

No, I still don't get it because Taylor has played BOTH positions in the 3-4. He has played standing up (ala OLB) AND with his hand down (RDE).

3-4 ends are typically in the 300 pound range, Jason Taylor is listed at 255 which is Ware, Spencer, and Ellis size. All of those guys would play end in a 4-3 but OLB in a 3-4.

Jason Taylor was never a serious option for the Cowboys.
Besides, man boobs in Miami wants Taylor around in case Mr. GM gets hungry and wants a big snack.
It's been said that Reid ate one of his players who was not producing.

Well, you think wrong...I just got back from September 17th and I can tell you that he was surely not a Dallas Cowboy. I can not divulge anymore as that would put me at risk of violating my time travel contract with doc Brown (I may in fact have already said too much, but it needed to be said).
