If we lose Dan Quinn to Broncos new HC gig, ... who would you want to prefer to replace him as
the new DC ?

Should we hire from within the organization ? ... or hire new DC from outside ?
In my opinion, Joe Whitt would be the favorite as he was making the calls when Quinn was out with Covid. Don’t think they look outside the organization

Vic Fangio

He's the one who supposedly drew up the blueprint to stop our #1 offense with Dak as our QB. He's a Philthy guy and he's there teaching them how to stop Dak because Dak has pretty much owned them. It didn't work a few weeks ago even though Philthy, like the Broncos D last year, has the tools to run his defense. Since he's a Philthy guy who looks like a tough coach, I doubt he would come here.

There is no next Demeco Ryans.
Right now, there's barely one... lol.
I'd prefer the the Bill Belichick. Or next Andy Reid.
Hey, the next Tom Landry or Jimmy Johnson would be great!

the point is that i'd prefer an up and comer, not another guy who is using the same stuff that's gotten them fired multiple times..like rob ryan, marinelli, mike nolan, monte kiffin

Bear bryant
Dick Lebeau

and a hot take
Norv Turner
Bear Bryant would be great but he couldn’t do some of the things he did in the Youngstown Boys in today’s NFL. The player union would be all over him for some stuff that was allowed back then.

Bigger question

If MM gets fired would Jerry hire KM?

If Quinn leaves they promote from within

that was preseason ..its' not same stakes and cost as when it's regular season and playoffs, ..but Witt Jr. would continue this Quinn like defense.
And though Witt Jr. does have pure DC experience, ...neither did Niners' DeMeco Ryan before he was promoted to DC after Robert Saleh departed to be HC Jets.
And Niners D " are ballin' lights out now.

Edwards has DC experience in both 4-3 and 3-4 , but i'm not sure if he was highly regarded among DC's in NFL, and that was more Zimmer's defense and scheme
than it was Edwards in Vikes land. In fact Zimmer eventually fired Edwards as DC.

Jerry has expressed his skepticism with both MM and Kellen. i recall him in an 105.3 Fan interview has saying " you don't wait until the offseason to make adjustments "
and at that point, much was pointed at how Cowboys offense never adjusted to that Fangio blue print of heavy max zone, miminal blitz, that Kellen could not figure how to counter-scheme.

That established HC with SB resume plus offensive background is what made McCarthy attractive HC hire. ...they wanted to continue to hit the ground running without gambling with a
young hot assistant coach needing experience and growth,. ..and they certainly were not doing the college HC route. ala Matt Rule, Klint Kingsbury.

Remember Whitt also has been with MM for years I’m GB. Has been around with Quinn, probably would run a similar scheme. I would like Fangio as well, but rumors are he is Payton’s choice.

What if Fangio is Jerry's choice ?
