If Bradford is released he'll be signed by someone as a starter. When he's played he's been a top tier QB.

Wouldn't he be a better option behind Romo than Weeden?

No, he hasn't been a top tier QB at any point in his NFL career. He hasn't been Blaine Gabbert or Geno Smith bad, but he hasn't been close to top tier.

When he got hurt before he last played the only QB with better numbers was Payton Manning. He had something like 14 TDs and 4 INTs about 6 games. And this is with a team that hasn't had a lot of talented players. The year before he had something like 23 TDs and 13 INTs in like 10 games. He hasn't been the problem with the Rams. If he goes somewhere like Buffalo or Houston those teams are suddenly playoff teams and teams that could compete for their divisions. Rams have absolutely nothing at the skill player positions since he's been there. Jackson was a good running back but was over the hill when Bradford got there. The receivers they've had have been awful.

Why can't they sign Bradford if he gets cut AND keep Weeden? Give them both a shot over the summer and preseason games. Let the best man win.

I was just replying to WG's request. I really don't care one way or the other. I was never a big fan, but I could see him being a decent backup.

Right on. I was wondering if there was a specific thing you've seen that disinclined you towards signing him as a backup QB.

Bradford was the victim of a horrific OL and not enough weapons around him. The beatings he took those first few years may have ruined him physically if not mentally as well,,, definitely had/has the talent though.

When healthy he is a starter. A good one, still with the possibility of being an excellent one. He had a 14/4 td/int ratio when he got injured a couple of years ago. He basically has not played since then.

He had a good 2013 season, but his other 3 seasons were pretty poor (still has a sub 80 career QB Rating, and has never thrown for over 4,000 or even really gotten close) and while you can knock the Rams all you want he always has had Steven Jackson running the ball for him which helps out a lot. Beyond that, you generally don't want your starter to have a huge injury history. I don't see many teams wanting him to start, and if you got to backup, picking a team with a 35 year old QB with a history of back problems isn't a bad place.

Whether Bradford might come to Dallas or not would depand greatly upon the amount of money they'd be willing to commit the team to at a time when signing their vet FAs is likely to tax their resources mightily. Of course, another factor to consider would be the advisability of signing a QB with an injury history. Fairly doubtful, at best.

He is a former Sooner. Rather not have any former Sooners on the Cowboys. Except DeMarco or possibly Peterson.

spend the resources on players to build depth and make the draft (once again) about BPA....we don't need a back-up QB presently, although Weeden is the only guy I speak of in a negative tone...they kept Vaughn all year for a reason, let's see what the kid has

Year Team CMP% YDS TD INT Rating
2013 Rams 60.7 1,687 14 4 90.9
2012 Rams 59.5 3,702 21 13 82.6
2011 Rams 53.5 2,164 6 6 70.5
2010 Rams 60.0 3,512 18 15 76.5
Career 58.6 11,065 59 38 79.3

I think if you linked in Steve Jacksons running stats here on the years shown that when a good RB is there he was good.
But many teams would pass on a bad knee QB. He would want to be a starter or have a shot to be a starter.

Bradford has never finished in the top ten in passing yards, touchdown passes, passer rating, passing yards per game, yards per pass attempt, yards per pass completion, completion percentage or passing TD percentage during any season he has played. When I think of a top tier QB, I think of guys that would be in the top ten in at least one of those categories at some point in their career. He can be better than Weeden. He can also be a good back up. He isn't and hasn't been a top tier QB in the NFL.
