If the Cowboys Don't Sign a Better Back Up QB, They've Lost their Minds

Like Stephen McGee or Mike White? They drafted Dak despite their best efforts to draft two guys who are out of the league, earlier in that draft.

Drafting QBs isn't exactly their strength.

White is still in the league, played decently when he got a chance and was kept over Streveler, who many here seem to like.

I appreciate that he won, too. I was impressed the first time I watched it. Then the season ended and I watched that game several more times and I don't think he could consistently win that game. I like that he won, I just don't put much stock into the fact he won a game .
I guess it just depends. I don't expect backups to consistently win games for me. I just need my backup to not lose the game for me.

I dont know Paas2run..in the Grier is cut thread Dak had him cut because he could've pushed for QB1 ...lol...gotta love the zone.

This made me laugh.

Thank You, Froggy!

Of them all, I think Grier has the most potential, personally. Not that he can throw like DiNucci. But when I do my amateur armchair evaluations, I see that Grier has a much better grasp on the mental aspect, and playing under pressure.

If we had an outstanding pass-blocking line, I think we'd all like him even more (I do like DiNucci a tad, but not enough that I'm afraid to walk from him). I just think Grier gives you the best shot because he has the mentality a player needs out there. He's relatively cool under pressure, and I like that about him, despite is mediocre arm.

you "don't think"...might be the problem.

Can I call this a stupid and dumb post without bringing the ire of moderators. It's a stupid, dumb and wasted post since the Cowboys will have a backup.
If they bring the ire on you and not the OP....welll no wonder we're Dallas Cowboys fans

We've got 3 playoff wins more than lions in the last 25 years and 1 playoff win in 6 years. Sorry to tell you boys, but we've had PLENTY OF BACKUPS playing for numerous years. Not even an argument or discussion. Go Jerry with your Superbowls through the draft!!!!!!!!!

The comments remind me why I don’t post here that often / it’s a shame that a couple trolls garnish so much of the attention

Appreciate you.

I don't use the ignore feature, because I'll hear anyone out. But this post, iggied three. Even the posters we rib all the time around here will make some good points every once in a while.

But then again, I'm able to not just see what people are saying, I'm usually also able to glean the intent or why and where those types of comments come from and I don't take their bait, no matter how hard they may try. I don't have any issues with anyone. But that doesn't mean they don't with me, for whatever reason.

Back to the topic at hand. I'm not stuck on Strong, per se. He just happens to be one I'm familiar with, as a player. And worrying about a guy not being there in camp is not an issue for me, because that's why we have coaches. It's not like we're dealing with high school players anymore. They're all supposed to be pros once they get to the NFL even if they don't always play like it.

To be fair, our line was really bad at times out there. But it wasn't always. And when it wasn't bad, it was still hit or miss for all three of them. I felt bad for the WRs, particularly.

Backup QB is an overlooked position here in Dallas. Rush wouldn’t win the #2 QB on any other NFL team. Only in Dallas….

Agree.

I'm gonna let this thread die.

Thanks for all who kept it above the belt.

That's why I come here.

I like the Ron Wolf strategy

1 franchise QB
1 trustworthy backup
1 prospect that costs nothing and is immediately traded after any great outings while his value is high, if not, immediately replaced with a better prospect

Without using Google tell me the names of the backup QBs for the last 5 super bowl winners? Y’all have some weird priorities. Any NFL guy will tell you, if your starter gos down. YOU’RE DONE

Maybe not last 5 SB winners, but Tebow did a decent job until Payton recovered for the play offs and eventually win SB for Denver. Say what you want about Tebow (and I'll support all the harsh comments towards him) but that backup QB kept the lights on while QB1 was healing and ready to play for the important games.
Same should've happened with Dak and Romo, but that's history.

I don't like how Jerry gets sentimentally attached to players. It seems like once you get on Jerry's good side, he'll keep you around for a while even if it's detrimental to the team.

We've seen this since Emmit, and several other players.

People say it was one of the worst drafts for quarterbacks, and there's some truth to that. But it wasn't so bad that you can't go pick up one of the better prospects in last year's draft to be your backup for a while, or at least 3rd string to develop.

Carson Strong had a knee injury and was told never to play again. But he went back and played and played very well. Like 70 percent completion rating and has a freaking cannon for an arm.

Then, the guy that whipped us from Denver, Josh Johnson, is also out there, if you need a healthier guy without the potential for a knee injury.

I'm cool with them keeping one of those three guys. To me, it doesn't matter who, but I would suggest Greir or DiNucci if you just have to keep one.

I think we all know that it's entirely possible to upgrade at backup quarterback.

Yes, it's nice to be able release all of your QBs knowing that no one is stupid enough to pick them up so you can stash guys on IR.

But when it comes time to play a game, and Dak gets hurt, we're going to wish we had better players than these guys.

Enough with this sunk cost nonsense.

Cut bait and upgrade.

I hate to use such a cliche' term, but this is such a no-brainer.
We may not know a lot but in my opinion Rush is not the answer.
