Who are the Cowboys taking if they have the #1 spot in the 2009 draft?

Jason Smith would be my choice. And the LT job becomes an open competition in training camp.

Crabtree? Orakpo? Curry? Stafford?

I would trade it to Buff for TO.

In all seriousness... I love Orakpo and think that he's going to be a great player for the next decade or so. If I couldn't trade the pick... I would probably go with Orakpo or your guy Smith (who I also think will be a good one).

i would say Jason Smith too since we dont have a known LOT in the future. I mgiht think about Curry because in wades type of defense, the linebackers have to make the plays, and we know either greg ellis will be gone either this year or next for sure, so you need a linebacker that can take over behind ware and spencer and help out behind brooking.

I would rather have the dominant OT though to build on for 10 to 12 years. Its kinda like nate newton said, this team needs a dominant offensive linemen, a young one to build on, like when the cowboys had erik williams or larry allen.

Jason Smith. No trade downs, etc. Final answer.

I've been meaning to start a similar thread lately.

If we had our 1st round pick that we traded to the Lions who would you take(also still assuming we have Roy Williams)? I think I might trade the pick, at that point in the draft this year the best value might be trading back.

If I had to draft the #1 pick, I'd be fine taking Jason Smith because to my un-trained eye, he is apparently the best tackle prospect.

Though I would be much happier trading down to a handful of spots, grabbing Crabtree, and picking up another linemen with the extra pick. Crabtree plus someone like Unger, Robinson, or Britton would be more valuable than just Jason Smith, in my opinion.

But if we stay there, best tackle. Although Aaron Curry would make me think.

Here's an idea if I had the #1 overall pick. I'd send it to the Bronco's with a 3rd for Jay Cutler and their 2nd. Go to Detroit, trade Jay Cutler for Calvin Johnson and 2 3rd rounders. We'd get C.J, another 2nd rounder and another 3rd.
