If the Cowboys Part ways with Schotty

I have not given up on Schottenheimer as head coach.
While I’m frustrated with Parker’s defense, I have not given up on him either because I think the defense would stink in any scheme due to a terrible LB group, no quality edge rushers who excel in at least 1 area (Parsons- pass rush; DLaw- run defense), a bunch of rental vets who seem to be doing their own thing out there, and injuries to the secondary.

However, what if Jerry were to fire Schotty?

My thought: maybe Jerry has been wrong in hiring offensive minded coaches just because that’s where our most talent is. Maybe there are lots of young play callers who could be successful with the offense.
Maybe, just maybe, the Cowboys would be better served hiring a strong, experienced, proven defensive minded head coach who could get the most out of this group while identifying what is needed additionally.

In other words, let the young up and comer who needs experience grow with an elite offense while the head coach is perhaps a proven defensive architect and play caller who can get that group where it needs to be while also influencing the offensive coordinator’s playcalling at times to help the defensive side of the ball.

There are many top DCs who would take the head coaching job. There are many young OCs, even Adams, who could grow and develop with an elite group where little play-calling mistakes don’t have as much impact. It’s hard to hire away great DC’s without offering a promotion.

Just a thought. It’s been decades since this team could stop the run. We’ve had great pass rushers at times; we’ve had guys like Quinn who would sell out on stunts and blitzes; but the downfall has always been good teams who run the ball down our throats. Object #1 for any effective defense is stopping the run…period.
Jerry Jones WILL not pay a head coach to stay home. He will keep his coach until the end of his contract

It's not going to happen.

Schottenheimer is Dak's preferred OC.
- As long as Dak's the QB, Schottenheimer likely remains HC.

Parker will be in Dallas in 2027 regardless of this year's results.
- Jerry really didn't want to fire Eberflus.
- Jerry definitely will not want to fire Parker after 1 season.

Some position coaches will likely get replaced if they don't get better this season.

ST coach: What's the status of Nick Sorensen's contract?
- They'll probably wait until the contract if up to replace him.
This is a neurotic reply and perfect overview of cowboys.

Jerry should have promoted Dan Quinn after the playoff meltdown against Green Bay three years ago instead of keeping McCarthy for one more year.

Not saying Quinn would have been the answer, but his defensive scheme was already in place and Dallas actually forced turnovers when he was here.
Nah Quinn all of a sudden ran a new defense that got torched in the playoffs. It's like he purposely did that so we could lose and he could get a head coaching job. And Quinn's defense was basically Micah Parsons. His defense looks like meh with the Commanders. And did you see them today? In FG range they run a dumb play and everyone casually got up and ran back to the ball but the time expired and they end up tying the game when they could have kicked a game winning FG.

Jerry isn't likely to rid this team of Schotty at this early date -- regardless of how bad he might be. This FO will keep him in tow for as long as he's able to return to their auspices and their stadium. We'll see how he fares well into the remainder of 2026, regardless of how many games we might win or lose.

Let's hope for a miracle for as long as Jerry & Stephen can stand their plight. They're filthy rich in the meantime, and not as troubled as some of us may be. They'll get over it. Will we? Maybe not too soon.

Which means he’ll never consider working for Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones is a loser and there are at least 50 college football programs that would pay Freeman more than Jerry would would ever pay a head coach.
This, After seeing what they are paying him compared to other NFL coaches, Freeman could go B10 or $EC and make big Benjamin’s.

This is the most likely scenario unless the wheels totally come off and go on a crazy losing streak.

I can see them adding a more seasoned vet to his staff .......Mike Petrine or Marvin Lewis, maybe

His defense was terrible though.

Go break the bank for Marcus Freeman

Relates well to the kids, is a great leader and a good man.

Plus he’s an awesome coach and motivator
NFL is totally different than college level. So being good there doesnt mean much.
Jimmy is the only guy I can think of that transitioned well and it was a unique situation.
