then IMO its a year too late.

We need someone NOW... TO isnt getting any younger and the whole advantage of a Roy Williams type would be to allow each of those guys to at worst alternate being double coverage.

I hope Jerry makes this move THIS year... somehow...

Jerry Jones said they would look into adding a veteran WR this summer.

I think there's a reason we stockpiled picks this past weekend. It might be to offer the Lions and 1st and 2nd next year for RW, then move back into the late first round next year with some of our other picks. I'm not a guru when it comes to trade compensation, just throwing that out there.

We have to get someone. Some people alway pull out Colts as an comparable example. No way. First, Glenn is done while Reggie Wayne is 29 and will definitely play. Second, Romo is not Peyton. Tony needs good receivers. He did nothing when we trolled Crayton/Hurd/Austin out on the field.

I don't think it will be too late to add RW anytime soon.

With or without T.O he is an elite #1 WR that you can only dream to get out of the draft.

If RW isn't here with T.O he'll merely be T.O.'s replacement.

We have TO, Crayton, Witten, and Hurd has shown he can do some good things also. Plus we'll use Marion Barber and Felix Jones in the passing game. We have plenty of weapons. Any WR we get this year is a backup.

Assuming Terry Glenn can't go, I agree with YoMick.

This is the point where our misses on the O-Line are seriously haunting us. A lack of cap space limits Jerry's maneuvering room and it is my impression we have a lot of money tied up in our OL. Hoping the Isaiah Stanback experiment produces a miracle does not seem like much of a plan.

It doesn't help when Romo did throw their way, they either got the butter fingers and dropped the football or quit on their route

I was thinking that. I hope there is a method to that draft day trade madness.

Agreed. Crayton, Hurd and Austin can get us no better than .500 while starting.

Kinda defeats the purpose. We brought TO here to help us win. NOW is the time to help TO help us.

Yep... Our O-line has yet to prove it can carry a running game. If our WR's go down we cannot depend on a strong running game. We dont have it. It will take time to get there... if we can.

we tried to get bolden, williams AND chad johnson. it's not as if the head office is sitting around thinking the WR world is rosey and cheerful, is it?

then, who is this NOW wr we can get that would fix all the problems that such fears invent? i can't think of anyone outside the group we already tried to deal for. can you?

not doing anything isn't the same as not being able to get a deal done. granted we're in the same position in the end, but tell me - who would you go get NOW that would fix this gap?

It is a long way to go until September rolls around. I definitly see the Cowboys getting a vetrean wr , not Roy Williams, Anquan Bolding, or Chad Johnson necessarily, but at least a vet that can come and help the team.

Ice's question is very relevant here. Who can you get that can actually help? The bidding already turned down for the WR's you mention does not bode well for finding someone worth the investment it will take.

I never said we didnt try or havent been trying for those three WR's.

I am just hoping that those possibilites are STILL POSSIBLE....... THIS YEAR!

Also, I never said that any WR would fix "all the problems" or "any problems" for that matter.

Not saying anyone should agree, but my next 'Cowboys campaign' is for Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones.

Could he replace TO?

Certainly not.

But he's got more ability than the other receivers currently on the Cowboys' roster and has played in the league for 3 years.

He's 6'6" and only 25 years old. He's got speed Crayton could only dream of.

I think he could be a solid addition to the 3 receiver package and he's out of favor in Jacksonville.

He could probably be had for a mid-to-late round 2009 draft pick.

And I think Ray Sherman could do wonders for him.

I wouldn't rule anything out with Jerry

This is one quote of the post draft PC:
"Hamlin joined us after the draft. What an addition. Logically you'd think you'd use draft picks and get a vet. But you shouldn't dismiss taking advantage of an opportunity."

Here is another one with Norm:
"We knew the odds were long with the WR being thin that we may not get a WR that gives us an option on the other side of Terrell. We have the opportunity to fill that from within. We hope a player we already have can step up to that position. We could trade for a veteran. I'm not going to specualte about that at this point. We hope Terry Glenn comes back healthy. We are optimistic about that. If Glenn is healthy, there isn't a space for anyone else."

Maybe I am reading too much into it, or still hoping, but I wouldn't be shocked if he does pull the trigger on a receiver this Summer.

Remember Detroit wanted Jerod Mayo and NE got him 5 spots before them. I could see us sending Carpenter and picks for him.

I know this might sound crazy to a lot of you, and I'm still trying to talk myself into it as well, I think he could trade Tnew for one, straght up!
I know...I know....but he's going to get a huge deal, and he is 30. Don't act like it's that crazy though.....it happens all the time. NE let Samuel go, Was. traded Champ Bailey for Portis, and KC let go of Allen.

I specifically remember Jerry saying in a post draft IV that he said he could see us trading one of our Vets as well.

It's something to watch out for.....and for now dream about.....only time will tell.

Who knows what Matt could do in an offense full of Pro Bowlers. It could return dividends.

It could be a nice gamble providing it doesnt cost too much... like you said...

I think Ocho Cinco would be a better fit in your offense. And TO might actually be a good mentor for him. I've heard that it will be easier for the Bengals to trade him after June 1st, I don't know if that's true or not. Besides, you guys can't have Roy Williams because the Eagles are going to get him : P. He's a better fit for our offense and younger.

That's my line of thinking as well.

Add a player with his size/speed combination to what the Cowboys currently have.

Who gets single-covered?

Most likely it's Matt Jones.

Now tell me the cornerback who would be a good matchup for him?

The guy has been an underachiever to date, but I don't think the coaching in Jacksonville has helped any.

I think a guy like Ray Sherman could get more out of Jones than the Jags coaches could.
