Rigged? Yeah, we actually laid down in that game for the city of N.O....we're actually a better team than they are...we just let Bush go on a couple of plays because it's better for the NFL to have the Saints in it than the Cowboys.....

Some of you people are way too naive. I'm not saying it is rigged (if you had the ability to read, you'd have seen that). I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised if it were rigged (somehow).

And, again, you are seriously naive if you think it's not possible. I guess you live in a 2 story house, have 2.5 kids, a beautiful loving housewife, white picket fence, etc...

There's a difference between "rigged" where the outcome is predetermined and "influenced" where a slight (or seemingly more) advantage is given to one team.

Marv Levy could have been calling the penalties and it wouldn't have changed the outcome of either win over the Bills. I'll say 'til I'm blue in the face that the officials kept the last Cowboys SB artificially close.

On the first part, very true.

On the second part... very true.

And jsut for the record (cuz some people can't tell the difference), I never said I believed the NFL is rigged or fixed. Jsut that it wouldn't surprise me if it were. At one time people - way back in the day - thought boxing wasn't fixed either. We all know the truth behind that (or at least I hope so).

you are right, the NFL could be fixed. That would certainly explain the Cowboys run in the mid 90's

No, it wouldn't. We dominated in the 90s. It's not like we needed help from officiating back then. If we always seemed to be in close games and won them often, then you'd have a point.

But we obliterated teams back then.

so it's only fixed (possibly) when the Cowboys lose, but when the Cowboys win, it's because of dominance? Once again, I'll ask, when did the NFL start rigging games (possibly)? Was it before the Cowboys Super Bowls or after? And if it was after, please explain to me why it is impossible without something being fishy that a team that hasn't won in 40 years can start winning (see Steelers, Pittsburgh). And if it could be possible that the NFL fixes games, what does that say about the Cowboys, who, last I checked, played in the NFL?

Are you really ready to go on record that you believe that no game in NFL history has had outside influences affect the outcome?

That's simply naive.

No.

But if Dallas had made it to or won the Super Bowl, then I'd definately think it was rigged.

So if you're saying that maybe the refs sometimes look at games they officiate with a particular bias and a therefore slightly more likely to call things heavy to one side, then I can buy that. If there are some pre-dispositions beforehand that allow for tougher calls on one side if the opportunity presents itself. I won't say that it's totally impossible.

To think that a hard and fast rule comes down from above to make sure one team wins. I think thats a stretch.

The Saints are a good team. They were a good team last year that ended up with a 2-14 record (at least partly) because of the shambles their home city (and players homes & families) were in.

Then they got Brees and that 2-14 record allowed them to get Reggie Bush.

They are a very good team and deserve credit for how far they've advanced thus far.

However, if you want to talk about conspiracies. Mario Williams going ahead of Bush is certainly a doozie.

(When a GM passes on the obvious choice, promptly resigns his position and a quickly hired by the NFL offices, ya gotta wonder ;) )

no, I think anytime you have a human element, it's possible. In fact, I definitely think there are certain influences that have affected games. As a life-long Saints' fan, I've seen my fair share of bad calls against my team that certainly affected the outcome of some of their games. First game in New York after 9-11 was the Saints/Giants. The refs were so blatently partial to the Giants that the NFL head of referees had to come down from the pressbox, stop the game, and pull the refs off the field to have a talk with them in the second quarter. The Giants won by a small margin. That's just one of many. And I'm sure the Cowboys have been hosed as well over the years. But I would bet if you ask fans of all 32 NFL teams, they can tell you stories of bad officiating. But the bottom line is good teams can overcome those things over an entire season, and it's absolutely ridiculous to think that the NFL can control an entire season for a team. It would take the involvement of all 32 teams, including the Cowboys. To blame your team's inefficiencies on some sort of "plot" or insinuating that the NFL influences an entire season and that's why your team didn't play well is pretty simple minded. I don't know why so many people have a problem with the fact that the Saints are having success for the first time. What's the point of having 32 teams if only 10 of them are "supposed" to win year in and year out. I totally respect the history of the Cowboys franchise, but to insinuate that the only reason some typically average to below average football team is because the NFL is rigged is juvenille in nature. And I'll point out once again, it took the Steelers 40 years before they started having success.

Great post, but I'll ask you this: if the Texans agreed to pass on Bush to help the Saints, why would they also pass on Young, Hawk, or Fergerson? Taking any one of those would have still allowed the Saints to take Bush.

The Saints are playing good as a team, but talentwise, there are better teams in this league that aren't in the playoffs presently. Sean Payton deserves alot of credit for that team's success.
