If we can cut Aikman and Emmitt, we certainly can cut Romo

I stand corrected.

Aikman also said concussions had nothing to do with him retiring but I disagree. Almost every time he got hit he suffered a concussion.

Why cut him? I know I am in the minority but I let his contract run out. Not paying anything for Dak now anyways and no need to do so till 3 years from now.

I agree.

I would keep him.

We only get like 5 mill in cap space if we keep him and part of that 5 mill would be used to sign a backup.

He's also a loyal guy and maybe he would rework his contract for us.

I don't know.. I don't have all of the details but if nobody offers us a quality trade i'd just keep him.

Aikman retired. We did not cut him.
Wrong. Aikman was cut. He later decided to retire.

As for the topic, I completely agree. I fully expect Tony to eventually be released. I just can't see a team risking a trade when he's likely to be released anyway.

Not sure anyone has said Romo couldn't be cut.. All scenarios I've read is just related to timing, cap hits, etc.

Is the OP upset that people still actually LIKE Romo or something? lol
There have been plenty of posts that have suggested either he wouldn't be cut because he has trade high value (which is obviously debatable) or that the team would never release him because he's either loved or respected too much. The latter being especially ridiculous as releasing him would be most beneficial to Tony.

Aikman was on with the musers this morning and told the actual story I have never heard before.

He said he got his Release from Dallas and expected to sign with San Diego the next morning, he had it worked out with Norv Turner. Then the same day doug flutie and rob johnson got released in buffalo and the SD GM was John Butler from buffalo and he insisted on flutie and signed him.....so norv called aikman and aikman decided to retire.

I have never heard that story and apparently he has never told it before. So he asked for his release so he could get out and away from Dallas (jerry obviously) and go be with Norv Turner in SD. He said he would have been the guy to groom Drew Brees. Said he was happy he never did because they were not a good team.

the world is filled with people who dis like him. Its the most bizarre thing ever.

Romo will get released just like aikman, emmitt, newman, allen, adams, ware etc...Released out of respect so they can go pick their next destination.

That's a lot of cap space that can go towards upgrading the defense. Makes no sense to keep him, and Romo will not even want to remain as a back up. This is a lose lose scenario

I'm just saying some people show more respect to Romo than both Aikman and Emmitt. Aikman and Emmitt won 3 rings. I don't understand Jerry, he has no issues cutting 2 of the greatest players in Cowboys history but acts as if Romo won 2 or 3 rings himself.

Don't mind me it's just an early morning rant.

First, if rings are going to be your judge of cutting players or showing respect it's a bad barometer. Lot of guys in the HOF with no rings. It's the ultimate team sport.
Second, they will absolutely cut Romo if it comes to that. What makes you think they won't.
Third, He's going to have a hard time cutting Witten too and he has as many rings as Tony.

Fourth - never post when you're tired in the morning. Always at night.

The tone of the OP is suggesting that folks are saying, Romo can't be cut, which isn't true. He can be cut or traded, but that's not what the OP is saying. Unless I may have missed where he qualified it with a trade scenario.

Didn't Jerry plan to bring Emmitt back, but when Parcels was announced as the coach, Emmitt knew they needed a fresh start, so he asked to be released, or chose not to take any offers and go elsewhere.

That doesn't mean he cared about the concussions. We hated it, but he might have not that that was a reason to stop playing.

Respect my rear end. This is a business. Yes, Tony Romo has given a lot to the Cowboys organization, but my gosh, the Cowboys have given him absolutely everything! There's no guarantee he even has a career elsewhere, not to mention enough money to live like a king for his life and a couple more generations.

I don't mean this in any way to demean him, but we owe Tony Romo nothing. If I can get a draft pick for him, even a 7th rounder, or a player, even a backup, I'm trading him. I'm not cutting him loose for nothing just because it allows him to make his own deal.
