If we're not gonna fix the Defense why not go all in on Offense?

Comical how the Dak haters shoehorn their agenda into almost every conversation.

Well, they're going to need that shoehorn for a long time.

I just wonder why a fan of a team decides to hate a rookie then feels compelled to defend that decision his entire career? Go root for players you like, if that's how you feel.

IMO it would be a huge mistake not to do everything possible to improve this defense. It's tough to win a championship with a just okay defense.

I'm not exactly sure what "all in" even means in this case but the Cowboys drafted a LB, DT, and DE between Zeke and Dak last draft, and signed a couple of defensive linemen. I expect they will continue moving in that direction.
Unfortunately, there are only so many moves you can make each offseason. The draft is limited, the salary cap prevents a full blown shopping spree, so you do what you can.

What hurt this year was the LB and DE drafted didn't play. McClain and Gregory's knucklehead decisions didn't help either.

Going all in is what the Giants and Broncos did to upgrade their weakest unit. The Cowboys believe that getting mediocre talent for cheap in free agency is gonna cover the hole that they have. Signing Benson Mayowa is doing nothing but taking up a roster spot and adding money to the cap.

We need to go after a JPP if he's available and not just sit back and let all the difference makers in free agency sign elsewhere. Sitting back and offering guys like Chris Long 1 year deals is not gonna get it done this offseason.

We need to draft the Best Player Available outside of the QB, RB and Center positions. As great as our offense was, an improvement can be the difference between countering our weaknesses and there's always injuries, so we could draft a WR and thank our lucky stars if Dez gets injured. The same with the TE position. Always take the superior talent and allow the coaching staff to adjust to what we have instead of trying to fill holes with lesser talent.

Free Agency wise we have to be smart. We look more to fill holes in FA, but we have to understand that normally teams never get the full value of a FA and you're better off usually making the moves for a Sterling Moore type of FA (cheap, fills a position) than a Greg Hardy type (expensive and you're counting on to fill a hole for years to come). For every Charles Haley that works out, there's 5 Adam Archuleta's, Albert Haynesworth's, etc. that were supposed to turn around a team and fell woefully short.

By being frugal in FA and focusing on the draft, it got us to a 13-3 record with a rookie QB. We need to continue the same strategy and it will eventually allow us to improve even more. I think a major problem with this defense was the lack of a MIKE which is so important in today's game. But people forget that we do have 2 viable candidates for the MIKE next year in Damien Wilson and Jaylon Smith. I think Church's limitations hurt us, but we may have a replacement in Kavon Frazier.

Meanwhile, we've been pretty aggressive in the draft at DE where we traded up for Lawrence and took a risky pick in Gregory. And look where it has gotten us at DE...Lawrence can't stay healthy and Gregory can't stay clean. If we would have taken a more conservative route, perhaps we get a quality MIKE and draft a DE that surprises us instead of trading up to pick Lawrence. Perhaps we find a quality SS instead of taking the chance on Gregory.

When we play conservatively in the draft, it usually works out for us. It worked out for us with Frederick, Zack Martin and EE. People wanted us to trade up for Jonathan Cooper and wouldn't you know it...he's now on the Cowboys without us having to do a thing. People wanted Manziel and now we wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot pole.

Scoring 31 in a playoff, or any game should do it. Offense doesn't need fixing. Defense on the other hand...

Dak played a great game, but no, he didn't play as well as Aaron Rodgers did. On a consistent basis, no NFL QB plays as well as Rodgers does.

Yes he did. Rodgers just made one more pass than Dak at the very end. Dak also didn't get the benefit of weak defensive penalties to help his offense. He also had to try and overcome was one of the most obscure penalties in NFL history early on. Dak also had to play with a defense who had no idea what they were doing starting with the staff having no idea how to sub correctly, calling early timeouts because of it and other things. Can Rodgers make the more difficult throws? Of course.

But from the first part of the 3rd quarter until the last minutes of the 4th, Rodgers and them did not score a point. This is the point where Dak took over the game. Rodgers had a better 1st half and Dak had a better second half. He went toe to toe with him and he's a rookie.

I don't think Rodgers one time had to deal with a penalty that derailed a drive. In fact, he had many that kept drives extended. Especially one where he airmailed a pass and it was picked off but they called holding.

What makes you think Dallas is not going to fix the defense? Did we not learn anything from 2014 and now that pressure on blue chip QBs are the best way to beat them? Brady, Ryan, Rottenberger, and yes, even Rodgers will look human if you bring timely pressure on them. I don't mean blitz them every down, but bring it when not expecting from different areas. You can't just decide to outscore those teams and win consistently.

IMHO, the defense will be worked on this offseason and with Jaylon coming, that will be a great start.

I wonder whether offense is among the most simplistic in the league? I've heard that it is from other NFL players.

If that is so, adding another wide receiver, tight end, etc. may not matter.

I think our offensive philosophy is part and parcel connected to our coaching. No matter the talent we will underachieve on offense when it really matters just as we underachieve in coaching when it really matters.

Might as well build the defense and hope we "stumble" into an NFC Championship game. It's becoming pretty clear to me that we need to surround our quarterback and our coaches with superb talent on offense and defense in order to get past the divisional round, much more to the Super Bowl.

I'm a big Dak fan, but he did not outplay Aaron Rodgers. We need a touchdown on the Cowboys' last possession. We had plenty of time. We got three. Aaron Rodgers needed a field goal with 35 seconds. He got his team a field goal.

No game is just the doing of one man, but Aaron Rodger's contribution to the team's victory was heads and shoulders above what any other Packer did.

Seriously I'm at the point that as long as Maranelli is here he's never gonna stand on the table for defensive talent. He likes try hard guys like Nick Hayden. Plus Stephen Jones is not gonna sign any premeire defensive pass rusher.

Why not just double down on the offense by upgrading the wr position and the TE position. Add another dynamic Receiver opposite of Dez that requires a double team and get a TE like OJ Howard in the draft and make it almost impossible for teams to matchup with you.

Yeah we may give up some points but we will avg 30 ppg.

Where do we find a WR that requires a double team? Where do we find a TE like Howard unless we get Howard? Then, do you think Garrett starts those players over TWill and Witten? That plan could make us the Commanders or Saints. In the end, the Cowboys just need to continue working on the trenches mostly on defense but also at RT. Remember it's a process. :)

Going all in on offense isn't going to work just look at the 2013 Denver Broncos as to why that wouldn't work. They had one of the most explosive offenses in NFL history but got blown out in the Super Bowl because they didn't have a defense. They went all in on defense and ended up winning the Super Bowl. Regardless how good the Cowboys offense is they're not going to win in the playoffs until they get a defense.

The only real great offensive team to win a Super Bowl was the 99 Rams greatest show on turf and that team ranked sixth in total defense. The 8 highest scoring teams in NFL history didn't win the Super Bowl. You're not going to get far without a solid defense.

If we're not gonna fix the Defense
After watching GB render our defense useless twice in a row in January Jerry knows he has to fix the defense. Saying "I just don't have any faith in them going all in on that side of the ball in 2017" doesn't justify saying the Cowboys are not fixing the defense at all this year.

I just don't have any faith in them going all in on that side of the ball in 2017. When Free agency started last year there were guys like Adrian Clayborn and Jabal Sheard that I thought could've been nice additions and the Cowboys didn't even talk to them.

I see more of the same this offseason and the draft you never know what will be available at the bottom of every rd.
They will continue to do what has built the offense. Draft well and sign a couple mid range draft pick
They are not gonna go crazy in free agency and they shouldn't and won't go all in on the defense in the draft
Keep drafting best player

Who are the giants playing this weekend?
Spending rarely equals winning
The broncos had a very good team, added to it and won but more times than not spending on free agents with big names doesn't get you over the top
