If we're trying to get better, why keep the same guys?

The Dallas Cowboys - including current free agents - have as a team collectively won 2 wild card playoff games in the last 7 seasons. Yes they have made the playoffs 4 of those 7 years, but is this a mix of players we just can’t afford to lose? Sure some of them are worth keeping, but don’t we need some new blood, new leadership, a new drive to take it to the next level?
  • Serious Question: If we are trying to get better as a team, be more competitive in the playoffs, and transform this soft culture into a tough playoff tested team, why are we so committed as an organization to keeping the same guys?
  • It would be understandable if we had won more playoff games with these guys. We want to “run it back” with the same guys as if all we need is another chance?
I would like to see some cap space dedicated to some new players who have been on teams that have won lots of playoff games.

I’m not saying it has to be a complete roster turnover, but can we just not continue with the “we like our guys” mantra that has dealt us two wild card wins in 7 years? If we are going to get some valuable cap space, I would like to see some new blood brought in.

Otherwise are we not just doing the same things and expecting different results?

First, getting better is realitive. like how some guys use stats, our Pro BOWL DT lost a step because he had 1 less sack.

Are we going to get better? whats the result? 1 win? 1 and done?

The question we are waiting on is what does JJ want to do this season. We wont know that until the draft.

Can you keep your whole team and still get better? Some people thnk 1 player can lift a whole team to a SB win.

What other myths do we use? Chemistry? home town discount?

lets see what JJ does in the draft, that will tell us what we are doing.

Bob when the GM thinks his team should have been in the SB and the roster is stacked why would he not want to keep his players

Why should we as fans have any confidence our GM and son know what they’re doing when it comes to building a serious contender for a SB? I’m open to new ideas, lol.

They let a bunch of guys go last year and we took a step back…keeping good players isn’t a negative, it’s not adding other outside players at positions of need
Right. And I’m saying we need some of those “outside players” who would be a good fit here. Players that bring something more than just talent. Maybe some grit, some leadership, some toughness.

We are going to have some cap space to spend. I’m just saying why not spend some of it on some new blood?

They think this is all just luck.

Never mind Aaron Rodgers and Eli and drew brees and Reid and all these guys all retired or left the conference and you had every shot to get close.

Brock purdy? Jalen hurts? This is who y’all let run the conference ?

First off, improvement first occurs at the hands of leadership and standard guidance. Not in creating holes.

That phase hasn't started yet. No complaints by me at present.

That's their standard operating procedure. Why did they open up 50m in cap space? That's not normal for them. What am I missing here? What did they need that space for? Parsons isn't a problem. If they signed Parsons tomorrow, our cap space would go to 60m, not down. What am I not seeing?

We always had a good core of players. But we NEVER added to them. Plus we asked nobodies to start in a few positions of need. We always ignore FA and ask UDFAs to fill in too much.

 :laugh:Great question on so many levels.....

It's sad tbh, very sad. For the most part this conference been wide open.

There is only so many resources to fill holes. We can't create more holes by letting guys walk, especially when they are getting minimal contracts.

Chargers just cut Bosa. Is he any good anymore? I don't follow that team at all.

Many players are worth keeping. I used to tell my staff, it's easier to find a coach, than a player...especially, with a salary cap. In other words, you got what you got, pull your frikkin head out and coach 'em up!! If not, I'll bring in another coach.

This is still cost effective and productive:

So how much would Lawrence cost on the open market should he indeed hit free agency?

According to Sports Illustrated, he would command a one-year $5 million deal - a very reasonable and affordable contract for whichever team might be interested in his services.
