If we're trying to get better, why keep the same guys?

Robert, our Owner just said he doesn't feel the team has any needs to fill in free agency. Not once you factor in what they play to do in the draft.

Instead of questioning it we should just realize how fortunate we are.
They are going to fill some needs no matter what he said.

The Dallas Cowboys - including current free agents - have as a team collectively won 2 wild card playoff games in the last 7 seasons. Yes they have made the playoffs 4 of those 7 years, but is this a mix of players we just can’t afford to lose? Sure some of them are worth keeping, but don’t we need some new blood, new leadership, a new drive to take it to the next level?
  • Serious Question: If we are trying to get better as a team, be more competitive in the playoffs, and transform this soft culture into a tough playoff tested team, why are we so committed as an organization to keeping the same guys?
  • It would be understandable if we had won more playoff games with these guys. We want to “run it back” with the same guys as if all we need is another chance?
I would like to see some cap space dedicated to some new players who have been on teams that have won lots of playoff games.

I’m not saying it has to be a complete roster turnover, but can we just not continue with the “we like our guys” mantra that has dealt us two wild card wins in 7 years? If we are going to get some valuable cap space, I would like to see some new blood brought in.

Otherwise are we not just doing the same things and expecting different results?
In no particular order….

-They will not give a big contract to a player they don’t “know.”

-It makes them look better as “football guys” since a big contract is the barometer for success.

-They honestly aren’t familiar with players from other teams. They just aren’t and probably wouldn’t even deny it, but no one is allowed to ask.

-They truly believe the team is better than they actually are, and want to keep that going so they can sell the product and lead a celebrity type life. Netflix doesn’t like 5-win teams.

-There’s nothing that’s going to convince Jerry that his friends and family method, and forming personal relationships with players is a problem.

-They aren’t any good at this.

There are 31 other NFL owners who are so inept they had the audacity to hire another guy to be their GM. We can be proud of our Forbes trophies knowing our Owner is “All in” and losers like Jeffrey Lurie are just “kinda in”.
;)

Fact, this group of coaches need to interact and develop most of what is already in house. Except for an injury and badly marred season, they were winners of 3 straight 12 win seasons. That isn't cheap escape in any professional sport. Not even bookies make light of facts.

1. Jerry likes our guys
2. Jerry was surprised we were not in the SB
3. Jerry thinks we had a bad year due to injury

With that said, I think we will add 1 legit FA, and gamble with 1 or 2 older-often injured vets(hope I am wrong).

Coaching matters....Something tells me we are headed in a better direction. Time will tell...I really don't think it would have mattered who we had....because the Coaching was that bad.

The Cowboys have not been in the top 25 teams in Free Agent spending for the last decade regardless of their cap space.......disgraceful
Looks like that could easily change this year. Hard for the league to spend more when they have less and the Cowboys have a lot of needs and there are a lot of players available.

I agree it's easy to like some of your own players and rolling it back is the lazy thing to do. At some point you have to ask are players like Gholston, Rico, and Lawson really the guys you want back because they're good players or because they were the best of bunch based on the limited options here? Sure as depth guys maybe, but those are also the spots you want young hungry guys on cheaper rookie contracts.

Bottom line, roster churning is good and needed to upgrade your team. Why be satisfied with an average player or a possible JAG just to fill a need because you're comfortable with a player?

You are asking the right questions IMO.

Lack of NFL football understanding by the FO/GM.

It's sad tbh, very sad. For the most part this conference been wide open.
No it’s not. It belongs to the owners that couple imagination with managerial courage. That leaves Jerry Jones out. Every Cowboys fan knows it. This forum allows banter about it, but doesn’t change a thing. The immediate future is not bright.

Washington is chasing a new stadium. Philly is chasing lord knows what. The Cowboys? They are little more than a pimple on the *** on NFL progress.
