CFZ If winning playoff games is the priority, I just don’t understand an OBJ signing

I’d sign him for two simple reasons. Injury insurance and the comp pick if he actually get a big money deal next year. Don’t really care if he has zero or 20 catches in the playoffs. Amy production is just a bonus on top of the two reasons I listed.
Whilst correct the problem is that OBJ is also fully aware of the comp pick and is using that as leverage to get either longer guaranteed money or something appreciably over the basic for this year.
The argument on his side is, why put himself out there and crucify his whole career (if he's not 100%)...blow me away or I'll take my time and come back when I'm fully fit.

Could be, you know our fans....if we don't sign him and we get knocked out in the first round, Jerry will still be at fault. It's a no win situation at this point.
Well…if Jerry wants big credit, which he talks about all the time, shouldn’t he also take responsibility when it doesn’t work? Isn’t that what happens when he makes himself the face of the franchise, the circus ringmaster and the final say in everything?

The only cure….win a bunch of playoff games. The last 27 years have shown Jerry wants it both ways. Being large and in charge- getting the credit and the blame. He’s set it up that way.

I don't understand the Hilton signing either.

The Hilton signing is because we don’t have anything dynamic on offense outside of Lamb and Pollard. Gallup, Brown, and Schultz are just good players.

At least we’re not just sitting on our hands this time of year. They know they have the team and they are trying to go for it with what’s out there.

I don't see the issue with this signing, especially if it's a one year deal. If he can come in here and make a couple of big catches when we need it, then what's the issue? Yea we should have looked at guys like Suh at first, but that ship has sailed. I've seen our offense stagnate at times if Ceedee isn't doing anything. If Beckham still has some juice and can come in here and help get attention off of Ceedee, then great.

I'm glad Jerry stepped in for once and did a deal. Enough of the cheap, penny pinching Cowboys. When you have a limited window at a superbowl, you go all in. Are the rams struggling now after going all in? Yea, but they will be rebuilt in a couple of years, just like how the Eagles were struggling for a few years after going all-in, but now they have the best record in the league. I'm fine with a couple of struggle years if that means we hoist a superbowl trophy. That's much better than perpetual mediocrity and early playoff exits.

It’s beyond me why our 80 year old owner and part time GM, after the last 27 years of playoff futility, spends so much of his time pursuing OBJ- a player that almost certainly won’t be able to help this team much if at all this year. All this happening at a time when this team needs anything but a circus.

In fact, what this team needs a lot more than a 30 year old gimpy WR:
  • Focus and attention to detail.
  • Mental and physical toughness to overcome adversity.
  • As a probable wild card team, becoming capable of winning road playoff games- something this team hasn’t done since the 1992 NFC championship game vs SF.
  • A commitment to being at their best the rest of the regular season and beyond.
I have nothing against Odell Beckham. He has been a very good NFL receiver. But obtaining his services just makes no sense right now when this team need focus, not a media circus with the signing of a has been WR. You don’t sign a WR in late Dec as THE “key” for a deep playoff run. But you do make that signing if getting a ton of attention is the goal.
Easy.

Jerry has been in the news for like 3 weeks now.

Until this week we were an injury to Lamb or Gallup from having passing game that would be easy to defence. Now with Hilton and maybe OBJ we got some depth…

If winning playoff games was the goal a lot of things would be different.

The Jones’s goal is and always will be relevance and staying in the news cycle.

Even worse, with all this buildup OBJ’s value has been dramatically overhyped so I guarantee he gets overpaid.

Of course he's at fault. He's the GM, it's his responsibility to put together a super bowl contender. Good or bad, it's on him.

I'm not too sure about your business acumen at this point!!!!!

I think this has more to do with the players on the team wanting him.

..I'm concerned if Dallas aquires him and we got knocked off first round playoffs.

Were going to be laughing stock for years to come. Best to let things be.
If we get knocked out again, we will continue to be the laughing stock. Don’t think that matters as I hear it all the time.

Would be so nice to shut all the haters up. :)

After 33 years of being a GM, Jerry still somehow believes adding a WR in December is the key to winning playoff games.
And after repeatedly losing in the playoffs because we can't stop the run, Jerry's emphasis in the draft is still CB's and WR's.

Jerry is just that football dumb.

I have to agree. I don't get the urgency of signing OBJ. Given his injury he is not playing in 2022 or the playoffs. I'll say it again, OBJ is coming off his second surgery on the same knee. He is not even running routes yet. Even when he does run routes it will take time to get in game shape. Then it will take a few games to get accustomed to playing at an NFL level. There is not enough times for OBJ to get through this process in the 2022-2023 season. All Jerry's talk is doing is jacking up OBJ's price.

I don't really see the problem with the offense. The WRs are not the greatest but they are good enough to make the Cowboys offense very hard to stop, especially when Dak is on his game. When he is off, OBJ in his prime won't help. I think Jerry thinks OBJ will take some attention from CeeDee. I don't see that. In a few plays the defense will realize he has nothing left and resume their focus on CeeDee.

The team needs for figure out the OL situation, and then worry about stopping the run.

I've been saying this since day 1. Jerry wants the splash move. Wants the headlines. Wants all the attention. I guess that is what matters most. Media circus is right. IMHO we just don't need it.

You want to add a piece or two to the roster to make a better team I'm all for it. DT. CB. Those type of signings will impact the chances of the Cowboys winning in January far more than adding a WR coming off back to back ALC's who won't ever work out and has no interested in playing regular season games.
Not to mention, even if OBJ is ready, Dak helped recruit him so you know Dak is going to feel obligated to get him the ball, meaning forced throws to OBJ, possible interceptions and discord among the other receivers who aren't getting as many passes because OBJ has to get his.

I mean, what possibly could go wrong with the above scenario?
