If you were to offer Jevonte Williams a contract, how much would it be?

i'd be very concerned with committing that kind of money to a veteran back, that has some wear tread on his body & wheels, that is not a breakaway ala Derrick Henry,
and has a take on hard churning style that is suspectible to eventually wear and durability issues.

Can he be a cap friendly casualty cut the following year, if he flames out after he's re-signed ?
he has very little wear on his body. Dude got hurt and then was used sparingly after that.

I'm probably in the minority here but I would never sign a RB to a high dollar contract unless he was a generational RB.

I would draft the best ones, work horse them, and let them go, rinse repeat.

Unfortunately for that position, I think most NFL teams should carry a stable of 2 RBs, 1 bruiser, 1 nimble, and game plan around using them equally. Never committing to 1, keep defenses guessing. When you have 1 type, it's easier to game plan against, unless you have a dominant offensive line.

I see the future NFL doing the same with QBs. But it's not caught on yet. The market doesn't support it. But imagine you have a aaron rodgers and Lamar Jackson, they are both okay with being dual QBs at lesser pay. You switch them out constantly through the game. How do you game plan for that?

3 years/21 mill
Unless it is 21 mill guaranteed then it isn't even close to what his agent would accept this early in the season. I am still thinking a 2 year 20 million guaranteed with a 3rd year of 10 million only guaranteed if on roster at start of 3rd year.

Javonte has been a complete beast, and fans want to lowball him. Man, talk about fans being weird.

Blue is not physical.
So?
People said that about Tony Dorsett.
People said that about Berry Sanders.
.
And no, I'm comparing him to aforementioned greats.
Just saying if a runner has skills, size is deceiving.
.
He's plenty physical.
Let see what this speedy RB can do.

Williams will last longer than barber did with his running style. At the end of the day most RB run hard and get banged up. There is no way around that, but doing so without using your head as a battering ram is a plus.
Skattebo might be a sensation now but he's going to end up worse than Mike alstott with cte.

Barry leads the NFL in negative yards.

I actually think that 8-9 mill pr yr range would be appropriate and fair seeing that this is his first and only year to run this well so far - and it's still early. Anything can happen.

It can be a 2-3 yrs deal structured to where it can be redone if he does it again next year. And this range is around where Hubbard, Conner, Montgomery are. He'd actually be getting more than Pollard and obviously a number of more talented rbs still on their rookie deals (which is why you draft for one vs re-signing at a high number). I don't see him getting more anywhere else honestly. And the position is still easier to find than any other position.

This is business, nothing personal.

0. Move on to the next guy. Don’t give second contracts to backs. Ever.
He's going to command a lot of money and he's earned it. We need to see what we have in Blue. I have a feeling we won't be able to afford him but hopefully I'm wrong.

The guy runs like Marion Barber and is so fun to watch. Unfortunately, that's going to shorten his career: I'm thinking 2 years, $8 mil per season.
Strange how so many don't understand the talent required at the RB position. Having a top 10 RB as opposed to "another guy" is a monumentally monstrous difference.

The "RBs don't matter" idea has been blown out of the water.
Just to show the difference in drafting vs free agency for rbs, check out all these rbs who are still on their rookie salary - varies where they are drafted, but you get the point:
Jeanty - 8.9m
Bijan - 5.4m
Gibbs - 4.4m
Judkins - 3.8m
BHall - 2.2m
KWalker - 2.1m
Achane - 1.3m
Irving - 1.1m

If the Boys continue the season on a high note, then you could justify re-signing JW around the Montgomery, Hubbard amount since JW has only done this for one year. You don't go crazy and overpay at 30m+ especially when they still are trying to figure out what to do with Pickens and hopefully LB/DL upgrades in the offseason. The success to draft a rb is too easy and more cost effective than overpaying. And I'd have to also factor in what % of JWs success is OLine coaching/scheme as well. Not a knock on JW, but these are the tough discussions competent GMs have without emotion involved when trying to build a winner on the field.

We haven’t seen Blue or Mafia play yet. Holding my offer… I do like that Williams can spin or make a move when being tackled that gets him 2-4 more yards. Tackled at the line but falls forward for 2 or 3… Needs to protect the ball…

No, that was never said about Dorsett. He was noted for tough up the middle running. Benched an amazing amount.

He ran this well as a rook.
