austintodallas said:Ok, I've kept quiet on this subject so far but I feel compelled to state my position. I'm a UT alum. I love the Horns and I love Vince and I'll never forget how he single-handedly willed us to a national championship. He'll always be one of my favorite college players, but...
I hope the Cowboys do not draft him. I do not think he is a good fit for this team at this time. I am skeptical of his ability to read defenses at the pro level. Vince is a freelancer and while he was a man among boys at the college level, this will not be so in the NFL. He may develop into a great pro quarterback but I do believe it will take some time and time is a luxury that the Cowboys do not have.
The Cowboys window is open now. I truly believe we are a player or two away from winning a Superbowl and I think Bledsoe will be the quarterback when it happens. The Cowboys need an OLB, a FS, and an offensive lineman or two. This year's and possibly next year's high draft picks must be used on players that can contribute immediately. Vince Young is not such a player.
If we draft a Longhorn I hope it's Huff.
Even Aaron Brooks and Q Carter have quarterbacked teams to the playoffs in the last 5 years. Bledsoe hasn't done it in 7 years and he's never played for a truly bad team. Plenty of qb's learn to read defenses in the NFL that were iffy in college like Brad Johnson and Rich Gannon. Dan Marino only had a 14 Wonderlic score and McNabb had just a 16. Rodney Peete had a 38 and Q Carter had a 30 and Aikman had a 29, yet, both Carter and Aikman both had better overall careers than Peete. Football is not chess, it's not rocket science or brain surgery, you only need average intelligence, but you need a high football IQ. There is a difference.
