But do we really know they were trying to disguise #68's eligibility?
If not the officials messed up by declaring 70 instead; if not then the Lions messed up.

Both sides are going to deny they are to blame, the only people that know for sure are Taylor Decker, Dan Skipper, and Brad Allen. I think all of them think they didn't make a mistake, to be honest.

#58 Sewell was a part of the initial circle jerk. He would know who was announcing himself as eligible. #70 Skipper wasn't even there.

It was the Ref that screwed this up. the Lions had used #70 several times during the game as an eligible player. You see this often on FG/XP. They were planning on muscle memory to kick in for the cowboys and they would just assume #70 was the eligible number, as he had been all game in various situations. You can clearly see that #68 made the motion to declare himself eligible and #70 did not. However, the muscle memory kicked in on the Ref and he announced #70 as eligible instead of #68. I do not know if the coaches can hear the announcement on the PA system at all, so they may not have heard the announcement. I have often seen a coach asking, which number was it, after a penalty because he didn't hear the Ref announce it. So its easy to see how they would not have known which number was announced. The problem is that the Ref only alerted the Defense in regards to #70, so 68 was not in the coverage scheme which is why he was open. It is hard to say if that screw up costed them anything. and they failed the next 2 attempts anyway. The nfl should just have players that have non-eligible numbers wear a pull over jersey in red or something and then there is no need to report or be announced.

I don't understand how this is 'trying to fool the Cowboys' when the ref still announces who is eligible.
You don't know football. They had multiple guys reporting....you acknowle the first one!

This is not my recollection. The refs were literally talking to 68 while 70 showed up late and may or may not have even gotten the refs attention.
68 was the last one. Are you mad that we won?

Are you flippin blind? Watch this video. 68 is standing right in front of the ref and 70 runs up from the bottom of the screen. Clearly you don't have a clue what you were looking at. You are arguing and telling lies just for the hell of it.

I'm not certain of this, but I think since #70 was announced as eligible, he should have been on the outside instead of #68. This might be where the illegal formation thing is coming from. The 2nd penalty stems from #68 catching the ball when, according to the refs, he wasn't 'eligible'. I'm sure I'm repeating things that have already been pointed out numerous times, so apologies for that.

I've watched the video a dozen times and I don't see the ref looking at #70 as he approaches the initial conversation between #58, #68, and the ref. The ref had already started walking away before #70 even gets there. So I'm trying to understand how the ref announced #70 as eligible when he wasn't part of the conversation.

My opinion? I think this was totally on the ref's. Audio between #58, #68, and the ref before #70 walks up would certainly clear it up, but that doesn't exist. Only the ref announcing #70 as eligible is there.
70 (Skipper) was wiping his hands up and down front of his jersey approaching the huddle with ref and 58 and 68. Ref saw it and acknowledged 70 because he’d done it previously during the game. Decker didn’t even know he was supposed to go tell the ref as Goff had to push him to get him to go to the ref.

3 linemen are in his face. You can only have one report. Are you blind or ignorant?

One of the former officials working the game said that a team can, in fact, have two report as eligible. Campbell said that he was told you can only have one but that doesn’t mean he was told accurately or accurately understood what he was told.
