I'm afraid J. Ireland was mistakenly overwhelmed with Stanback

If we had used a second rd pick -or god forbid a first- on him then MAYBE-underline MAYBE- there would have been a point to this thread. He was labeled a PROJECT by all concerned. A PROJECT by definition takes two to three years. Spending a first or a second on one is VERY questionable and lets all sorts of doubts come creeping in at an early date. BUT WHEN YOU USE A FOURTH ROUND PICK- it does not. I see no problem at all at spending a year or two on a FOURTH RD PROJECT.

Are you saying we did not spend a first round pick on QB turned WR Matt Jones?:D
 
It's the 5th game of the season...and we haven't seen Stanback, our 3rd pick of the draft [103rd overall.]

He's a near top 100 player in the 2007 draft..and hasn't played a down.

That's why there is concern.

Bryant actually ran a slow 40 time, but consistently got good seperation. The problem was he was a terrible route runner (his routes were often rounded about as bad as you could round them out), he had horrible hands, and he was a headcase. Getting open was never really an issue with Bryant.

I look at this like a redshirt year for Stanback and given that he's a former QB I can understand that. If we can get another year from Owens, hopefully Stanback will be far ahead of any WR we could have selected in the first or second round of 2008.

Stanback reminds me of Antonio Bryant. Both are the most impressive guys you've ever seen on the field, the definition of "dynamic" ... if you watch them casually on your couch, both seem to be awesome athletes and just be quick in all their movements and kick ***, but ..

I'm afraid that Jeff Ireland fell in love with Stanback, and Ireland saw him as a possible special athlete ... but if he was a fantastic pure speed/athlete/doing anything on special teams, or had any special talent even as a gunner ... or anything worthy of a draft choice, he would be out there nowadays, don't you think .... Yeah I know Stanback ran a 4.3 or 4.4 but ...

Ireland wasn't here when we took Crayton I think ... he was a unlikely body type for a receiver, like Stanback, but Crayton must have been a pure lucky find in the "local" predraft prospects day and contradicts all I'm saying :) .. did anybody scout SW Okla. or wherever Crayton was from?

Now Jacoby Jones at Houston, 3rd round, may amount to something ... :)

From the very little i've seen from Stanback im definetely impressed with his size and speed.

Also another guy in college right now who I think will make an incredible Pro Receiver is Dennis Dixon from Oregon.

That kid is lightning.

If we didn't have this Stanback project i'd be calling for us to draft Dixon.
 
so because Stanback isn't starting on special teams, and returning punts is somehow the epitome of having some moves, means Stanback is too linear?

btw, Antonio Bryant failed because he has a 10 cent brain and was lazy, didn't sell his routes when he didn't get the ball, ran the wrong ones
 
Marvin Harrison is like 5'11 I dont think i'd call him a tall linear guy
