To me, this would jolt up the intensity in the defensive side of the ball:

1st round - Roquan Smith (6'1, 236 lbs) Georgia
2nd round - Malik Jefferson (6'2, 236 lbs) Texas

Current depth and the future would be set for the linebackers.

You run to the podium for Roquon in the 1st and given he's a smaller OLB I'm not in principle against another LB in the 2nd though I'd want it to be a bigger MIKE type LB. I'm just not high enough on Jefferson as a player to take him at 50. If a guy like Evans unexpectedly fell I'd make a second sprint to the podium.

Take a wr 2nd round. Give Dak another weapon with speed and who can run a route.

I like getting 2 linebackers...but I like a couple other options better and I think we can get another pick with our 2nd round to help:

1st Round
Tremaine Edmunds (If you think we can get Roquan Smith than you can probably get Edmunds who I like better)
LVE
Rashaan Evans

3rd or 4th Round
Josey Jewell
Darius Leonard
Fred Warner

5th or later
Jack Cichy

I seen his entire college career at Texas and it was very underwhelming considering he was a five star recruit coming out of high school.
He disappeared in big games.

I saw a tad of Texas games...he played at the collegiate level there. He'll grow up in the professional level. I still like the kid...

Great post, I think Tremaine Edmunds dropping to 19 is my favorite scenario but a trade down is a close second. If that's the case I do think LVE and Rashaan Evans are targets in the late first or early second.

I would also add Shaquem Griffin to teh 4th round list, my dream 4th round is RB Hynes at 116 and either Leonard or Griffin at 137. Both would have to drop a bit, but I think its definitely possible in a draft where both RB and LB are very deep.

The offensive line should be close to tops in the NFL, without further additions.

The secondary got youth and upgrades, last season.

The linebacker group now needs great upgrades as a unit. Do it in this draft, and not just slot fills with good fuzzies, as with fan favorites.

If Edmunds or RSmith you do not walk to the podium; you do not take the allotted time of 15 minutes to make the choice. You sprint to the podium in under 20 seconds to hand in the card. It is that simple.

Does this sound familiar?

...While the New England secondary had some serious struggles last season, the unit with the least talent on the entire Patriots roster was the linebackers. After an injury knocked Dont’a Hightower out for the year, the Patriots were left with just Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts as players returning from the 2016 team. They added David Harris, but that, unfortunately, did not work out for either side as Harris spent most of the year as a healthy scratch. The Patriots also traded a seventh-round pick to the Bengals for Marquis Flowers, who had a surprisingly productive year for New England after coming in with little to no expectations.

However, the Patriots issues at linebacker were clear all year, as they did not have anyone who could consistently cover running backs out of the backfield, and overall, they were not effective against the run. The Patriots lack of linebacker talent is evident simply by the fact that they spent most of the year in a three-safety set with Patrick Chung playing down in the box. While I love Chung both in coverage and as a run stopper, your team clearly has issues when he is essentially spending most of a season as a linebacker-safety hybrid.

The Patriots need a serious infusion of young talent at the linebacker position, and with four picks in the first two round, it is likely that they will select someone to play alongside Hightower and Van Noy. Assuming that the team doesn’t make a trade (we will get to that eventually, don’t worry), then there are only two linebackers who are likely out of reach for New England: Virginia Tech’s Tremaine Edmunds and Georgia’s Roquan Smith. Edmunds is one of the best athletes in the draft and has great size for the next level. Smith also has fantastic athleticism to go along with sharp instincts and high intelligence. Both are likely to be taken within the top 10-12 picks...

Dallas just went young and better in their secondary. Let's see which team does the best at fixing their LINEBACKERS!

Then why do you want us to draft another WILL prospect?

Both of those linebackers can play multiple positions and can stay with a back/tight end out of the backfield. They have sets of wheels and can play the Dallas defense including pass defense. They both need to learn with Sean Lee, bit you tell me how long Lee will last or his salary just becomes too expensive, now.

There are a couple first-round worthy linebackers in this draft (Roquan Smith and Tremaine Edmunds), but they should be gone when the Cowboys are up.

The Cowboys need to fill other spots on this roster and should be patient. Show the world that there is no panic in big D despite the release of big D and find themselves a fundamentally sound WR on Day 2.
