That challenge on the Celek fumble came quick and was huge. In past years he would have just stood there.

He has been managing the games brilliantly and has the team prepared.

He has adjusted some things to fit his guys, like the sweats on the plane rule. Sweats on the Plane!

I've been thinking about making an appreciation thread, but I have to say that this was probably the best coached game I've seen from this staff. That challenge took COJONES, because if you lose you are down to one TO in a tight game, and I doubt they had time for a replay. If he got that wrong he would have been blasted, but he took a risk and it paid off.

They knew that the Eagles were selling out against the run and trying to play tight coverage, but they kept running just enough so that the Eagles didn't change tactics. That was brilliant. If you started passing all game, their defense would adjust, but instead they switched back and forth. Great calls.

Every WR was used, they protected Romo, and they called crossing routes/drags and seam plays. Basically attacked the weakest part of the Eagles, which they just couldn't do last time.

Agreed, but everyone in the Zone knows that after a big win it's all love for Garrett, but after a loss of any kind we want him fired.

Garrett has done a brilliant job this year. He deserves a big contract, and that's what he's going to get. He already has the best job in football, head coach of the NFL's crown jewel franchise.

Garrett has stayed the course, he had some bumps as far as clock management goes, but the vision for how to build a football team is paying off and unlike Harbaugh (who I like, but wears out fast) is sustainable.

One of the main areas JG is not getting credit for even by the media is this balance in the offense.. Now in pre-season the WHOLE world was questioning the hiring of Linehan and all believed it means this is going to be pass-happy offense since Linehan is mostly known for that as an OC.

What's happened to him? why did he change his approach? All of a sudden he decided to change his beliefs? Well..I believe JG sat with him when hired and told him we are going to run the ball, we got this OL, a QB to run the show and a group of RBs who can carry the ball..so run it first ..we want balance....

My jaw dropped when he did that. If he had lost it would have been ALL OVER this board, and I can't say it would have been wrong. That was a big risk and it paid off. Seriously.

Yep. Garrett gave credit to Wade Wilson, who called down to him and told him to challenge that play. It was a HUGE turning point.

Just a couple seasons ago, we had the best success rate in the league on challenges. I don't know how it's looked since them, but I imagine we do an ok job with it, overall. That said, don't know what they thought they saw up in the booth with that first challenge.

Garrett has continued to do a good job with all the things he's always been good at. And he's improved with Linehan in the fold on most of the gameday stuff that drives everybody crazy all the time.

To piggy back of what you said, it's fairly well known that Garrett had visions of the 90's Cowboys when he began building. The course has taken longer than many in here wanted, but it's happening, and we're in the midst of it as we speak. When Scott Linehan was hired, I have no doubt that Garrett sat down with Linehan and the rest of the offensive coaches and told them his visions for this offense.... Run. Run. Run.

There's a foundation in Dallas, and your seeing it. It ain't gonna happen over night, but it's progressing in the right direction.

I am not a fan of his but he did a fantastic job last night. I want him gone mainly so we can get a totally different offense and we never will until he is no longer a Cowboy. As long as he keeps his hands off the offense, I can live with him for awhile longer. Don't want too but I can't argue that the players don't play for him.

If we end up 11-5 and miss the playoffs, he deserves an extension as much as it pains me to say. Kudos Jason, ya got them over the hump but it is not over yet.

I think removing himself from having to be concerned with the offensive play-calling has allowed him to focus on making better decisions. It's difficult to be a head coach and a coordinator, and he wasn't real good at doing both jobs.

Without the coordinator burden, we've seen much better game management from him, including his use of timeouts at the end of halves.

Though we really don't know much detail about what goes on in the locker room, on the sidelines, and in the press box, I think it's fair to say that JG has proven to be good leader who keeps players grounded and focussed, and who has shown management skills within the staff.
He's brought some consistency and stability to the system, and it seems the team believes in the path they're on.

I'm not sure we can give him much credit for in-game adaptations, but if his co-ordinators have the freedom to make those decisions without interference of fear of reprisal, then that also leads to better cohesion and flexibility.

The current system just might be working.
