This defense is now versatile and complete. If we get one of these good young backs in the 4th then Im looking at one huge hole left on our team and its a guard. Big hole mind you.

And no I dont see these as special teams guys. WE got two good starters in two positions of need in the first two rounds.
I think achane was our guy in the 3rd and when he got picked we reached for a need

no.
getting vibes that we just got another russell maryland.
like overshown...love his speed.
i'd rather have had torrence in rd2 than schoonmaker.
thats really the only pick i didn't like.
but i'll root like hell for him.

A lot of people were upset with Parsons too. Just saying maybe see what Quinn does. As for the TE I was certainly tired of watching perfectly good running plays get blown up because Schultz couldn’t block.

Not as easy in the drafts following a divisional round playoff exit where you're picking at the end of each round. Recent comparisons would be 2015, 2017, 2019. A few early round busts each but overall, they got some starter-level players in each draft, with some being really good and some being just average.

2015:
Byron Jones
Randy Gregory
Chaz Green (bust)
Damien Wilson

2017:
Taco (bust)
Chidobe Awuzie
Jourdan Lewis
Xavier Woods

2019:
Trysten Hill (bust)
Conner McGovern
Tony Pollard
Donovan Wilson
*Traded 1st rounder for Amari

I think they got beat out the first round and took Mazi as the BPA. But I believe they say the TE was strictly a MM pick. The LB show some promise, but who knows.

It is when two of the three players are not adjusted to be starters.
Michigan runs a pro style offense that asks it's TE to do a lot of the things asked of a pro TEs. He was consistently used as a POA blocker to success inline. According to his coach he knows how to adjust his routes against zone and man coverage. His athletic measurables put him in the top quartile.

I bet Schoonmaker starts in 12 personnel.

I get the sense they reached for need with the TE. I have no idea why they pick the LB in the 3rd. Is LB that much of a need, more so than OL or WR? I feel like the OL depth is going to be a problem but I guess they think Farniok, Ball and Edoga can in if needed.

First off let me say I don’t think any draft could be as bad as 09…

But the front office seems to be drafting with the exact same mindset from 09

I’m happy with the picks but they all felt like reaches for need or a last second scramble pick cause the guy they really wanted was just taken…

Anyone else getting 09 vibes from this draft?
Not at all. Completely disagree.

This is a weird draft where everyone sees guys different. There are plenty of picks that went higher than expected and plenty that didn't go as high and some of those still available.
it's actually typical, on a fan level anyway

in other words, nobody knows s***

but when their "mawk draftz" aren't met with expectation, the squirming and posturing/posting are on display for all to see

That's funny.

12 players drafted with a total combined 1 starting season. Lol, one of these players had a single starting season.

Eight of them participated in 12 or less games......historic! Jerry at his best! Moving up and down the draft board like a mad professor....or just mad!

Two 3rds
Three 4ths
Three 5ths
Two 6ths
Two 7ths

12 players......practically zero value!

I've just got to find the 2009 Cowboys draft press conference video!

But, no, this draft is not like that one.

There is the full Cowboys draft history. Its actually sobering. 95, 2000 and 2001 were total crap along 2009. Most drafts only have a few players who turn out to be worth anything at all. Like, lots and lots of worthless players. When you look at it that way, Dallas *might* have 3 long term contributors already.

Personally, I think if Dallas has a quality run stopping 1T for the next 10 years, that puts a floor on the results of this draft above a lot of others just by itself.

I get your drift and what you’re thinking. But take a step back

- Mazi Smith -> monster DT and run stuffer. Will start / rotate with Big Hankins.

- Luke Schoonmaker -> big upside guy, great blocker, clutch 3rd down player. Plus player and can play the Y.

- DeMarvion Overshown -> Off ball LB and helps depth and likely falls into the Kearse role.

Yeah, it’s not the player you liked, I liked etc. But we have to trust McClay and the scouts to do their job. I feel going with Zavala in the 3rd would’ve been better. But the way they are drafting makes me think they will go

Smith - Smith - Biadasz - Martin - Steele at OL
You are assuming these guys will all pan out. I have serious doubts about that.
