I know that's going to sound funny to some people, but it's true. Things were looking too good. I needed something like this game to happen to make me think the players will come down from the clouds and be more prepared.

I never want to lose, but I really just don't care about the pre-season at all. Coaches will never play the pre-season the way I want to see it. Every kickoff would be onsides so the team could practice that. Go for 2 point conversions. No punting. No FGs.

No coach will ever do that, but I'd love it. Anything to basically erase the kickers.

I was starting to drink the Koolaid, and for an avowed cynic like me, that's not a good thing. So now, I feel like the coaching staff will know what they need to do to harp on to keep this team sharp.

There were things I liked tonight. In particular the play of Bradie James. There were things I hated. Turnovers and penalties in particular.

Two of our best starters did not play at all but will be ready when the Giants roll into town. Personally, I feel a little better now. I didn't want to think that the first game of the year would be the let down if these guys continued to look as sharp as they have. Now, they can't rest on their laurels. It's time to go back to work. I think they will do exactly that and show some pride.

Yeah, I'm relieved. I won't blame you at all if you don't share this feeling and are a bit concerned.

I warned about being over confident in this team because they are so unpredictable... And Spears comments made me want to smack him!

I will agree with you on this one. win, lose, first team, fourth team - no matter how you slice it, it still is preseason and teams never show their hand. Cowboys saw what they were capable of the last two weeks, and they let the air out a little because the game is meaningless. Everything is vanilla.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

It's not like this team just lost a key game to keep them out of the playoffs. This is what the pre-season is for - to knock the rust off.

This just goes to show all fans, players, and coaches, there is still some rust. They've got time to deal with it though, and I believe they will.

They actually had a good-looking drive early on, only for it to be killed by penalties.

This is probably the down side of a "timing" O-if you can't take advantage of your opportunities and start shooting yourself in the foot like this, even THIS can get you off your rhythm.

Funny thing is, we over came 2 false start penalties, but then the holding penalty was the nail in the coffin for a drive that I'm pretty sure was going to end up in either a TD or a field goal.

See that the thing

us houston fans, we would love to feel that way. But we have either school or work on monday.

Consider the rest of the year torturous murder.

Koolaid. I made a pact with myself YEARS ago to not make it, sip it or even stir it. Have yet to hold up my end of the bargain. Lame.

This pre-season loss IS good Hos. Most important thing for me is how the coaching staff handles this. That will be interesting.
As the saying goes; "**** rolls downhill."

BTW - Great post.

I share your exact feelings. We did not need to go into the regular season thinking we were all that. This was a nice little reality check at just the right time.

Romo sidearm to Terrell! TD!!! (get used to it) :starspin

15-20 years ago, NOONE CARED about preseason games.

Now-EVERYONE is getting TOO passionate about them-this is beyond sickening, if you ask me.

Not even that long ago.

These are glorified practices intended to make the owners more money. That's about it.

When you aren't starting several starters and you aren't game planning, you shouldn't get upset about losing these games.

I won't characterize myself as relieved, but I'm not overly concerned, either...

And for those going off the deep end because we lost to a "lousy" team, I truly believe the Toxins will be a solid team this year... I see them getting to .500, maybe even above .500...

When you were young, they used leather helmets... the forward pass was considered a daring innovation...
