I'm staying a Cowboys fan, but my NFL interest is waning. As a 32 year old, I've never seen the Cowboys in an NFCC game since becoming a fan. Heck, I have to use YouTube to watch the Cowboys actually win. That said, I'm not going to ditch. However, I have to admit my NFL interest is waning.

Firstly, it helps that I enjoy other sports, particularly European/Premier League football/soccer and WC football/soccer, and I'm also a big hockey fan. Specifically, my Premier League team, the AFC Bournemouth Cherries have been spectacular. Here's a team that was collecting money in buckets in 2008 to stay alive, and now they are 6th in the Premier League after thumping Nottingham Forest 5-0. Oh, and Bournemouth's home ground has only got a maximum seating capacity of 11,307. Compare that to AT&T Stadium, and it really puts the Joneses to shame. Then there's my hockey team, the Vegas Golden Knights (who share an owner with Bournemouth, maybe he can buy the Cowboys?) who have only existed since 2017. They went to the Stanley Cup their first year and then won it a few years ago. So yes, having other sports helps me wane my interest in the NFL.

Secondly, the NFL feels like a recycled product at this point. I don't know how else to say it, but it just feels......dull at this point. I mean, I enjoy watching the sport. I'm still a diehard Cowboys fan. I still enjoy going to the pub every so often to watch some games like I plan to do tonight for one of the championship games. However, I can't say I enjoy the NFL as much as I used to. Between the officiating being crap and the Cowboys being useless, I can't say it's as intriguing as it used to be for me. Hopefully my joy watching the Cowboys will be rewarded some day and I'm not going to ditch. However, I much prefer world football and hockey. Also, I must say, I enjoyed the college season, and I do like to watch the Japanese X League when I can. But, all in all, especially with the NFL, it's getting a bit boring.
Yep, I don't do all your alternative teams type fandom but the other reasons you mentioned were pretty spot on.
I'll add my own 2 cents in saying that sometimes the out comes do seem pre-determined or scripted like a pro wrestling match as well.
It's like the whole legalized gambling/betting environment nowadays just makes me a little more suspicious of the game's overall integrity at this point.

I mean my gosh, can we move on from the whole Kelce and Taylor Swift hype?

I'm a Cowboys fan who can't bear to watch any more. I don't have the energy to look for another team, or sport. One sport, NFL football. One team, the Dallas Cowboys. It's been nearly 30 years since dominance, and I am simply taking a break.
There's a better way......living in the DMV, I'm watching with Commander fans today.......good food, good drink, and good relations......laughing with them.....and if they lose....I'll laugh at them too.....all in good fun......misery loves company.
And if they advance......it's going to be a blast to return to more good food, good drink and good relations.....and I'll look at my fellow Cowboy fans in the audience and say......"Told you, it's Jerry's fault."
And if the Commander's lose and Eagles in the SB again.......more good food, good drink, and good relations........and I'll look at my fellow Cowboy fans in the audience and say......"Told you, it's Jerry's fault."

Well yeah, but I think it runs deeper to fantasy football. I think that was the start.

OP, I hear you. But, my interest in the NFL isn't waning. My interest in the Cowboys has been, though. If not for this board, I probably would have disengaged completely.

This was the 1st year I actively was rooting for another team. I wanted to see the Ravens and Lamar break through. Never thought I would be a person who ever rooted for another team actively. Shoot, I don't play fantasy sports because of that reason. I'd be actively rooting for the success of players on other teams and ultimately their team's success so the individual or the defense could succeed.

Hang in there, OP. This board is a great sounding board and resource.

Oh this board and my fursona and suit being Cowboys-influenced has helped keep me a Cowboys fan lol

I think the NFL is ruining their product so I understand the lack of interest. I think games overseas, games on Amazon Prime, the length of games, free agency, rule changes, etc. are all contributing to fans losing interest, at least for the core group of long time fans. I also don't think the NFL cares. They are looking for new fans all over the world as well as at home. It seems the product on the field is no longer as important as the money. I would love for the NFL to stop softening teh game, but I also realize that is never going to happen. We will see flag football someday instead of what we watch today.

Since you are only 32, you have never witnessed greatness. So it is alot easier for you to give up, more than us old folks. We have seen greatness in them from the time we were kids. Ride and die with the boys!! I am surprised that your generation has time to stop looking at their phones to do anything. LOL

Hey, I'm sticking with the team. I said as much. I just find football/soccer and hockey more enjoyable than NFL Football the last season or two.

Well, exactly. They're selling out those of us that enjoy what made the NFL great for the new fans through Swift. I don't mind the international games. That's fine. The issue is everything else they're doing that detracts from the NFL being the NFL.

You’re just feeling that way because this year sucked. When you lose your starters after going 12-5 for 3 years in a row the season isn’t the same. Regardless how anyone feels about Dak, when you lose your starting QB the season is over in this league. The NFL is awesome. I’m a secondary Chiefs fan so that helps. But I watch as much of every game that I can. We can only hope and pray that El Cheapo opens up the checkbook in FA and we have a solid draft. I’m learning to quit having my sights on them picking who I want, as they generally do the opposite! (Schoonmaker is a perfect example). For two seasons no RB’s drafted!!!). Just wait and see. That’s my approach going into next season for sure
The Cowboys offense got better when Dak got hurt.

His contract ended all hopes for the next 4+ years. He'll be even worse next year.

We're far from rock bottom unfortunately, and we're headed that way.

I'm a fan of all the Dallas area teams so it hasn't been as bad the last few years. The other three have been their respective sport final so they at least attempt to try to win. I'm also an Arsenal fan. They also try but they also let me down as well.
Gunners fan here, too. I'm finding myself watching the real football more and more.

Exactly, it feels manufactured. And I don't want to see anymore about Taylor Swift. Her music sucks, and she sucks.
Taylor Swift is brilliant. Why is she dating a football player? Well, her being part of football means there will be more football fans. More football fans means more people playing football. More people playing means more head injuries. More head injuries means more Taylor Swift fans.

My NFL interest is waning due to a few things:

1) The flag fest. Just makes the game boring.
2) The players' mouths. Just shut up, please.
3) No Defense allowed.
4) Too many 400 yard passing games.
The games are too long. 10-minute quarters. Give each team 5 timeouts per half; that is the only time the clock stops—split screens for commercials/game. The clock continues to roll. I just cannot spend 3 1/2 hours watching this nonsense anymore. If there is an injury add that time on at the end. Yes, many of my suggestions are from the EPL of which I am a massive fan. GGMU.
